Brake cleaner?

I have never tried this on any blades, but I have seen it work on many other things that are coated! I over sprayed part of my snow blower while working on it and brake cleaner ate a surprising amount of paint off of it.....really fast too!

Clean Strip for walmart took the black coating off my ESEE.

If you want it cleaner after that, some 400 grit on a hand sander polished mine up.

I have only used a medium wire whell on my grinder , does a good semi quick job and doesn't mare the metal.

I used Klean Strip that I got in an aerosol can from Ace Hardware. I removed every last bit of that black finish pretty painlessly.

I used sandpaper and removed enough that it developed a real antique look to it. The coating on mine was not very thick and it stripped off pretty easy.

Sanding it is a sure bet. I've used Klean strip on wood, but never on metal. From what I've seen of it, I think it might work too. If it's real powder coating though, then it's ceramic and the klean strip may not work at all.

Keep in mind most tools these days are made out of variants of 440 stainless, Cold Steel tends to use a 1055 medium carbon. The 1055 is much nicer, and more durable, but is so because it lacks chromium content. In other words, it'll rust pretty easily. Might try bluing it. If not just make sure it stays oiled and doesn't get wet.

Listen to the crowd, Klean Strip is the way to go... And it's just paint on there, comes off pretty darn easily.

citri-strip works fine on the CS powdercoat.
