View Full Version : Dutchoven pot roast in the front yard.

09-19-2011, 05:39 PM
Had some visitors at the farm this past weekend, didn't feel like heating up the house so I started a fire in the front yard and loaded up the 14" dutchoven. Not an oven I would want to pack in but I may get a donkey to haul it into the bush "o)

Oak and Cedar burned down to coals.

After a few years of practice it becomes intuitive. Nothing works as well or tastes as good.

The roast cut with a fork.

Nice. And some nice irons there too. BTW Kelly and I used the ones you gave me all summer. Thanks brother.

Kelly and I used the ones you gave me all summer. Thanks brother.

I knew you'd use them. If I had a fully stocked kitchen I would have had dumplings or fire up the 12" for biscuits. It was very good, the meat was infused with garlic.

Man that looks good! I don't think there's anything that can't be cooked in a dutch oven. Sushi and steak tartare I guess:

Nothin' better than havin' a good bunch of friends over and crackin' open a 14"Lodge with good chow in it this time of year! We just baked a 16" oven full of cherry cobbler last weekend when we got invited to a friend's BBQ.....bummer was, we forgot to bring the ice cream:25: Didn't seem to make much difference to anyone, though;)

Thanks for the peek under the lid! It's finally cooled off enough to start slingin' some iron again.....I love my ovens in the fall!

And here I am eating pizza rolls when I could be visiting you and having a real dinner! Haha, looks pretty tasty!

Now we're talkin'.

16" wow, I've got D.O. envy. I wonder if I could even lift a 16". I've always been a fair hand at cooking, reminds me of my early years in the Boy Scouts, they had me doing too much cooking. All the other guys were out having fun and I was cutting onions and peeling potatoes. I guess I was around 11 or 12 but I wasn't stupid. I made a chilli one evening, my way "o) they found another cook after that, wimps.
