Several years ago, I aquired a rusty light blue double bit axe head. I covered it and put it in my camp box to someday restore and add a handle. Well Skogkniv's axe is back project and several of you here inspired me to get started. Can anyone tell me the maker of my axe. A google search revealed little. Going to be a fun project but wanted to do it true honor and maybe see some pics of it in its original glory. Don't think its very old as the original owner worked for the forrest service at some point but i've had it... going on 20 years (MY GOD! am I that old? good grief!!!) Anyhow, appreciate any input.

well, we kinda need pics!
being blue, it very well could be a collins, but pics really would help;)

So here's some Pics, after about an hour with the wire wheel, the only markings I can make out are 3 1/2 and on the other side what looks like so far some type of crown. Cannont make out the letters yet. Sitting with breakfree on it right now see if I can knock out some more rust...

Might be an old Gransfors like mine :)

looks like the letters gba under the crownin a circle just wont come out clear and I don't want to take any more off! don't like that the blue is coming off but... some pits are fairly deep. Don't think it will ever again be as pretty as yours!

Good Lord!!! I'm like a kid! almost jumped up and down when Up The creek posted!!! Man the treasures you can find in your camp box! How bout that for FREE!!! I'm being real careful now to leave as much blue as i can, unfortunately a lot came off with the rust around the makers mark. I'm so into it I almost forgot to start the coals to feed the family! Anyone else light their charcoal grill at home with a LMF Scout or is it just me. A Gransfors... Oh My God!!! Thanks guys, Thanks a million!

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but it appears I have the same double bit axe head...rough! but it has the made in Sweden and the crown on the same side opposite bits...but cannot read below the crown...then there is the 3 1/2 on the other side....Is this the same head?

Definitely a GB - I have a few like that. Recognized it by the shape before seeing the stamp. Nice one !

Might try a vinegar soak for getting rust off , before you go wire wheeling. :)
