The mission of Bushcraft USA is to provide a North American focused forum for bushcraft and related activities. There are differences between the North American continent and the rest of the world, both geographically and culturally. We intend to explore the differences and similarities between the two philosophies. While this is primarily geared towards the USA and North America, anyone is welcome to join.

I took these photos in November 2010 while hunting outside of Old Forge, NY. At first I thought I had stumbled upon some bear sign. There was scratches and rubs on the trees as high as 6 feet up on the trees. Then I found a bunch of droppings that made me realize I was looking at Moose rubbings on the trees. The moose poo were like deer poo but the size of tattertots. I found enough poo in 2 days to fill a volkswagon! I still have not seen a moose in NYS. I tracked those moose for three days and never got to see them. I figured I was only a day or two behind them. I was impressed at how these creatures can tear up the woods.Hope you enjoy the photos.

Hi folks, got my new DP Hunter from Svord today. As most reviews, the handle and blade have been dipped. Blade not quite as bad as some I have heard. Feather-sticked fairly well right out of the box.

Wondering if I should re-profile it as 'virtuovice' did here...
Svord Drop Point Hunter & Karesuando Boar Carbon - YouTube

Thoughts?

Also, the sheath is little iffy. Wondering how I might make it wrap the handle better for a more sure grip when inside? Should you wet it and form it? Or wax and heat? The sheath comes all the way up the handle and has belt slits in the sheath instead of a loop.

Thoughts?

Appreciate it.

I picked this Ka Bar stockman pocket knife at a thrift shop. Its a basic stockman style. I tried searching the internet to get a idea how old it is. The shield on this knife has basic lettering while all the ones on the internet are showing a fancier script type lettering. Its going into my rotation as an every day user and not interested in its value unless its something crazy :53:. Sorry about the poor picture. The Ulster Scout knife was picked up in the same deal.

And how do you manage drinking water collection and washing/cleaning in rivers, streams, and lakes that you are camped near?

Hello All!

I just wanted to share with everyone my current adventure here in Akutan, Alaska. I had shared it as a prayer request back in March...

Hello All!

I just wanted to share with everyone my current adventure here in Akutan, Alaska. I had shared it as a prayer request back in March (here) and I thank all who cared enough to pray for me!

I and my oldest son have been living in Akutan since March. The rest of my family, Lord willing, will be out here in mid June. I currently pastor a small church here in the "Bush".

Unfortunately, we haven't found a great amount of time or opportunity for much bushcrafting. This is a pretty remote island with no trees to speak of. It is generally snowing, or raining, most of the time. Here are a few pics to give you an idea of what it is like:

You can see the church waaaayyyyy down there at the bottom. My son and I's first snowshoeing trip.

Another shot of my son. His first time doing any kind of mountaineering.

The wildlife here is incredible! This is a friend who likes to spend time on our porch. He let me snag this patriotic shot the other day. Some people have a guard dog...we have a guard EAGLE!

With Spring on the way, HOPEFULLY!, Krill have been washing up on the Harbor shore. We are hoping that the trout and salmon will follow!

Anyway, I just wanted to keep you guys in-the-loop of our adventure. Sorry I haven't done more. Internet connection here is spotty at best. If any of you are interested, here is a link to our blog. It is about our ministry here primarily, but has photos of many of our adventures also. Just thought I would share with anyone interested.

Any suggestions for bushcraft ideas in a semi-arctic environment would be appreciated! There are no stores here and mail MAY come once every week or two. Our kit here is minimal, we brought only basics and are improvising the rest!

Thanks for looking!

Peter

I know that I for one, am looking forward to it. I always appreciated it in the episode where he 'broke' his arm and after a couple of days said (paraphrasing here) "Screw it, survival is hard enough without a broken arm. " and took off the sling for the rest of the stay.

Ok, Compadres. I have never had a tattoo but now I am seriously thinking about it. I have one in mind....it's a tribal tulip (my favorite flower)...on my back shoulder muscle and the tribal part wraps around to my muscle on my arm...

I started rethinking the whole idea this morning... I want something Bushcrafty. I'm sure of it. Do you guys have any ideas?

It has to be classy...

You helped me name my cat.... now help me figure out my tattoo...please?

Any cool ideas .... pictures...etc...would be much appreciated

Thanks ~ Firebug
