yeah, it's 01. I sanded the whole blade up to 2000 grit and then just a vinegar soak, wiping it clean every 10 minutes or so, then another wash and oiling. I wanted to avoid forcing a patina but i live on the waterfront. The marine environment rusts everything fast, even to tools in my shed will rust if not cared for regularly. I decided this after the grips were done so i had to completely seal the wood in beeswax to keep the vinegar off the wood, then had to remove the excess wax ( a little heat and a denim rag).
oddly enough, the sanding removed the laser etching, but the vinegar made it come back in white giving it a reverse contrast from the original.
Here are a few of mine -- I'm a beginner for sure, but I'm pretty pleased nonetheless. If it looks hand-made in the picture, you can bet it is... lots of homemade leather, micarta, wood, firesteels, saws, and even a blade or two.
