Are you keeping it a secret or willing to share?

I rather wait to tell and see if their really is chert their first instead of leading everyone to a place that does not, I will post GPS locations if I am successful finding the mother load... will be some time in July till I can make that trip...
besides I don't want anyone to get it all before I do LOL.....
I figure a tot box full will be a lifetime supply for me for what I want it for....

I still haven't had any luck.

I have found some stones that work for flint and steel fire but nothing I can knap into a spear/arrow head.

I just returned home from the hardwoodsman event in Missouri and there was chert everywhere, broke up two softball size dark grey pieces and got about 2 dozen great size shape pieces. After everyone had a pick I just left the extra in the pile with the tinder fungus and birch sap everyone was picking through.

I'm heading over to Missouri in a few hours for two nights of camping and finding some good chert is high on my priority list along with some morel hunting.

Anyone tried a pet store? I know this might sound silly at first, but I once met a guy who was into knapping, and he mentioned the fish aquarium section having large chunks of obsidian. They try and carry decorative rocks which will not leach anything into the water.

I'll try and remember to take a look next time I'm near a pet store.
