Default Are turtle eggs edible ?

There was a turtle "aka slider" lying in the path today , we felt a bump and looked only to find we had ran her over .
Upon closer inspection we saw that she was in the process of covering her nest . we dug it up and found about a dz. freshly laid egg's .
Any other time we would have left them be but the swamp is completlly overrun with them already and since the eggs were directlly in the tire path in soft sand i doubt they would have survived.
    Long story short....................can you eat'em ????????

I have never tried them but author Robert Ruark in his stories of his youth (The Old Man and the Boy) raved about sea turtle eggs in fact he seemed to be preoccupied with food in general.

You can eat em, however I have heard (or read) that you have to poke them open (they are leathery to begin with) and suck the stuff out, which is slimy.

    Maybe try frying em?
Be sure to give a report bud!

As far as I know, all fresh bird or reptile egg is edible. But Walkabout is right on.
Nothin' takes the edge off your apatite like cracking an egg into a hot frying pan and having a little critter skating around in the oil.
I'll eat a lot of stuff, but a balut ain't one of them!
