Default Preparing/Surviving Riots & Civil Unrest

Here is a pretty good article that I found on another site on riots and civil unrest in America, what to expect and how to prepare. It's a good overview of what has and can happen with some common sense info packed into it, written by a police officer that was in the L.A. riots. It goes over many different areas and is a good read not only for those starting out in "prepping" but for experienced persons also.

interesting article about the riots. I was in college in Northern California when the 1992 Riots hit. It was a scary time....

Sadly, I think these are words of wisdom from one who was there. I'm old enough to remember similar scary scenes from Chicago and Detroit in the late 60's. And historians can go back a lot further than that to point to incidents of "civil unrest" in our rather short U.S. existence. I think the most significant lesson shared by this L.A. Riot reflection is, when segments of society (or worse) break down, normal safeguards are, at best, hugely compromised or perhaps even disappear altogether. As always, being forewarned provides the opportunity to be prepared.

Presuming that it's something much more then just short term unrest or riot...Personally, my top priority is always water, so I'm studying all possible (and impossible) methods of water purification... I know one thing tho...If something big happens, the cities will be death traps, so I would head to the hills...

IMHO J.W. Rawles puts up some very honest informative information backed by reserch and expereince , I have been in several riots while working in prison and the rioters feelings of anonimity produces some auwful behavior . Pepper gas worked ok but I would have prefered Willy Peter to break contact on the streets.
