Because you are uploading them to the board as attachments to the post.
Check out this thread about using a photo archiving service, and then embedding the photos in your post.

I'm ready to go back, and get serious. I have a Rollei Magic twin-lens sitting on my desk here, just begging to get some exercise again! My old Olympus OM-1 thinks I disowned it! Poor thing.....
