I see the triangle is there but the star seems to be missing from that last pic. Was it just too big a pain in the arse to grind? I imagine that would be a lot of suck in a small package.

Exactly right, man. I thought "this isn't gonna be fun to grind at all". hahaha. So I scrapped it. I want to make a bigger triangle next time around, this one is smaller than what I had planned.

They weren't actually traditionally ground much at all as far as I know, that is a western mall ninja invention. I know you are doing these for fun and going back to all us mall ninjas kiddos in the 80s but I'm being a historic dork as usual lol. I'd have to ask my wife, she knows a lot about them and gets really mad when ninjas are dissed for some reason haha.

Pic I found from the Ninja Village/Museum (yes that exists and is so totally worth a road trip.)

Also this site is awesome that is all. http://item.rakuten.co.jp/ninja/item-030b/

Yeah, I think you're absolutely right bro. I think the old timey ones were just forged with mean points on them which makes sense because that's all you need. My problem is I can't find steel wide enough to use that is thin enough to not need to grind....if that makes sense.
I might make some out of mild steel, they don't need to hold an edge. We'll see.

Also the size is something the modern 80's mall ninja stuff got wrong vs. the historical stuff. A lot of the old ones I've seen were large just like the ones in that pic, which makes sense for mass reasons and it makes them easier to throw.

Wow, I have learned a lot in the last two post. More than I have on one subject in a while. I can't help but look up ninja stuff now.
