Whiskey I want to say that's a shocker but something doesn't look just quite right for that. Apart from that it looks like a really overcomplicated bar mower. You can see where there was a reel above the cutter bar--most of that has rotted away and fallen off as the spokes for those were made of wood.

Most interesting item I've found was this:

We left it as we found it.

I stumbled across an old foundation in Greece (Corfu, IIRC) while staying out in the field. Just a few stones at ground level forming a few small rooms. The site overlooked the sea and I sat there trying to imagine what mundane activities took place in and around where I sat. One of the best nights I ever spent in the field.

Not weird, but cool. Full bicycle innertubes. I used it for various things.

I think this is what's left of a binder. A binder is a wheat or oats harvesting machine that cuts grain and then ties it in bundles to be threshed later. Nowadays, cutting and threshing are done by one machine, the "combine!"

Part of an old derailed train in my back yard. Foundations of buildings I believe had something to do with the railroad or granite quarries.

Unfortunately it's not as unusual as I wish it were... last year a buddy and I were hiking with his kids and came across a recently abandoned backpack containing the makings of a mobile methlab. Not sure if they heard us (we weren't being quiet at all with the young kids around) and split or not, but it hadn't been there very long at all.

A bit disconcerting to think that we could have run across someone in the middle of cooking that crap with the kids with us... God only knows how that would have played out.

It's not unusual but I thought this was pretty cool to see last summer on one of my hikes. I was just up there last Sunday and it didn't survive the winter. I didn't think it would but no one has replaced it. I did find the flag pole about 20 yards away.
