The last two weekends, my two daughters and I have built a small fire in the backyard and cooked some food over it. Yesterday, I used my hobo stove to heat up some viennas for us. Good fire practice for me and a good time for the girls. A few more times and I think they'll be building the fire themselves!

Made a little knife sharpening thing. Nailed down two pieces of an old leather belt, and sawed out a space in the 2 x 4 to hold the sharpening stone so i dont have to worry about my fingers.

    Sharpened a machette after that.

Now that is slick, I like it.

Kinda what I did to my bench. Took an old 2" belt, tacked it down and added the compound , now its secure as all can be to my bench and no sliced fingers from a slack belt.

Plus I like a little pressure behind my strop, instead of a slack belt. It helps keep the convex edges on my two main users for the most part.

Went and got me a truck load of free firewood. Several creeks and run offs here in the city that just piles up and a few spots along the powerlines that get thinned out. Also built me small elevated wood platform and put a tarp roof on it. Been practicing and enjoying my fireskills in the back yard, thus the need for the wood. Got several old carbon knives i need to work on here pretty soon.

Modified an Old Hickory into a crooked knife tonight. Made a crooked knife blade out of an 8" file also, but an epic fail in the heat treat led to cracks. I'll try that one again tomorrow.

Made some charcloth today. Was tryin to knock out some feather sticks for bushclass basic but found out that using seasoned mesquite is a little tough. Also found out that i have been using liquid boyscout to light fires for WAY too long. Kinda disappointed in myself.

Just re-discovered my old (Sam Brown) a very heavy leather police and security guard style black belt. I place the hook end of it in a cabinet drawer and close the drawer on it. Held on to the other end and did some good stropping on a couple of knives for sharpening practice. That old abandoned belt has now found a new purpose in life.
