I've had both, currently still have the Hero2.
The Hero2 has a much better interface and easier to use overall.
I really like it so far, it's one of the few that have non-typical mounts.
Example, I picked up the NVG plate mount for my Tactical Helmet and it works great. I attached one of the flat mounts to a rail piece which allows me to mount to nearly any of my rifles.
Very light and compact, it'll be the only camera I take on hiking trips now.
The Hero2 also has 11MP still shots over the 5MP there older Hero has.
The 1080P quality is pretty nice, however I typically use the 960P at 48FPS as it's a good balance.
My only complaint is I'm not too happy with the "fish eye" effect from the lens.
If you use it in a lower setting you can set it the a narrower field of view which helps, but you loose the video quality.
Hope this helps!
If you have any questions, let me know!

i have one to,very satisfied,i love it,a bit expensive, but worth it,got it for over a year now and no problems at all, very well built.
hero2 goes with me every woods walk or fishing trip - its a real nice camera
I also have a Hero 2 and have been very happy with it. I've beat on it pretty good during some obstacle and adventure races with no ill effects.
i still have to find an external mic - when speaking the filmer is too loud and everything else is muffled - video is great and audio isnt - anyone suggest an external mic?
I just got the Hero2 and love it. I wish the battery lasted longer, but I also purchased a GoalZero Nomad 7 solar panel so I can charge it in the field. The remote and an extra battery pack is worth the investment too.
Do not have a GoPro, I picked up a Veho Muvi Pro, much smaller. Takes very nice video.

How do ya'll work around no display? I would think that would be a major pain to not know if you're getting what you want in the video.
I don't have one, so only speaking based on what I've seen. I think the whole idea behind the gopro cameras is for true point of view recording. Mount it to your head, your handle bars, your bow, the picatinny rail on your AR... whatever it might be, the camera sees what YOU see. It is not meant for handheld or tripod work, really.
