    Default Woodlore type knife

First off, I apologize for bringing up what I assume would be an exausted question. I am soon to be in the market for a new bushcraft knife. I think the woodlore style seems to be great for bushcraft purpose. I like that it has a large amount of cutting surface area and still a nice point. My moras work great and I will continue to use them but I feel like I want something a bit more. The woodlore like knives I know about would be the classic ray mears, A. G. Wright and sons, and the bushcraft usa knife. As it stands I think the bushcraft usa knife seems the best, but $250+ simply may not happen for me. By the time I save $150, and unexpected bill will pop up, haha.

So what I'm asking is if you guys can push me in the right direction of what I'm looking for and what your opinions may be. Thank you!

I own several AdventureSworn and they are well worth the money. But if your budget is 100.00 to 150.00 trying some of the other vendors on this site is a great way to go. You will most likely have to wait but will be worth it IMO. If you go off forum, for the 100.00 150.00 dollar range, one of the first place I would look is Blind Horse Knives.

There are a number of custom makers on this forum making Woodlore clones or very similar style knives: Adventure Sworn, Red (Redneck Knives), Mike M (Sugar Creek Knifeworks), Rook (River Bottom Blades), Brian Andrews (Off the Map Custom Knives), Petrifiedwood (Turning Outdoors Knife and Tool) just to name a few I can think of. I'm sure I left some out but that gives you a few options to look into.

For an affordable option with a similar design, you could take a look at the Blind Horse Knives Bushcrafter. They get a lot of love on the forum and as you can see the design is quite similar; 5/32" O1 steel with a scandi grind and a spearpoint tip. The handle is incredibly comfortable too, though it might not look as sexy as a coke bottle contour!

Thank you all for the help and references. Help seems to come quick here!

I appreciate the list of some of the makers and also the picture of the BLK. I've actually been considering them, as I live in ohio and my local cutlery stocks their knives. I did not know they came with a scandi grind, it was awhile ago but I thought I recalled only flat grinds on the ones I saw. I'm not a huge fan of the handle material but this further confirms they should still be on my list. Thank you.

Look at Condor Knives. Smoky Mountian Knifeworks carries most of their models.

You want to keep your price down, buy blank from one of the makers. Put the handles on yourself.

There are plenty of videos out there to guide you.

Glad to help, I'm sure it'll give you many hours of fun shopping

The BHK Bushcrafter comes in scandi or flat grind versions. Default handle is micarta, but I've seen them with nice maple scales. The first run of Bushcrafters was flat ground saw steel with fiddleback maple scales but they have made a few of the newer runs with maple scales too. If you decide you want to go that route, give them a shout I'd bet the BHK folks can help you out. I've heard several times they're great to deal with.

The set I have I custom ordered with stabilized curly maple with black liners on all 3. Bushcrafter (flat) , Bushbaby (flat) and Spur (scandi). They did a real nice job. Took about 60 to 70 days.

That's cool, I have contacted BLK about 4 months ago about the wood scales and they said no to it. That's what turned me off a little. Lucky you for getting the maple scales! I love the look and feel of their knive and will certainly buy one someday, but with my current financial situation, I can't spend $130+ for something I think I'd like better with different scales. I do understand BLK is very busy and does not have the time typically for custom work, but options would make them stand out more.

I do have a condor bushlore on order now. I've heard the grind needs some work. How does one go about that?
