Default John Roy Small Fixed Blade

This knife was given to me for Christmas by a friend. He picked it up at a show and unfortunately couldn't tell me much about it.

I have never heard of this maker and can't give any specs on the knife. I'm hoping someone here will know something about John Roy.

How to describe this knife? Its sort of a mini-nessmuk tactical skinner, maybe. It feels good in the hand. It seems like it would make a great deer knife.

It is a small knife, but built very solid with canvas micarta scales and full tang handle.

The sheath is kydex and has a molded clip at the top that clips onto a pocket very well.

I don't normally EDC a fixed blade but this one may change that.

If anyone has any info on John Roy knives I'd appreciate it. I tried looking him up on the net and found a few mentions but it seems his site is down.

The house we're living in for the next four months is literally in the Delaware River. We're on an island and if you fall off the deck you land in the river.

Can't offer any advice on the blade but it is pretty nice looking, reminds me of my small fixed blade I edc. Here is a pic of mine. Very similar looking, your's is a bit longer though. Bad weather so they are crappy pictures.

Back on topic now, sorry for the slight de-rail.

Your friend has a good eye for blades. I need some friends like that!

Have you climatized to your environment yet?

Mac, You might want to ask Barry Dawson (knifemaker and has a website) and he can give you the specifics, I believe. Seems to me they might be related (I have some Dawson knives).

I think you will find an uncanny resemblance in knives made by Barry Dawson (dad), Lynn Dawson (daughter), Dennis cook (husband of Lynn) and John Roy, for a very good reason. I have seen the four, together, at a couple of knife shows in the past. I don't remember how John Roy is related (perhaps he married a Dawson daughter?) but, obviously his knife making influences are tied in with Barry's...as are the other three. I would give Barry a shout and he should be able to point you in the right direction for specific information on that knife.
