Default Making the RC-5 Mine (aka EESE-5)

Back when I bought an RC-5 from what was then Rat Cutlery, I had already bought an RC-3 which I loved, but I felt I needed something a "little" bigger. I thought the "5" would be in similar proportions to the "3" only longer....Well it wasn't, it was a beast. I remember it being referred to as a tactical crow bar on one site. It has been one of those knives that wanted to love but just didn't.

The thick squared off scales did not fit my less than manly proportioned hands and it always felt unwieldy to me. SO as I've been experimenting with knife making, I thought I would take a shot at moding the the RC-5 and make it the knife I wanted it to be. I must say I am pleased with the results:

    The original:

Remove scales and decided on a new profile:

    Grind new profile:

Remove that nasty epoxy and my first attempt at a convex grind:

Some new scales with a nice contoured shape- fits me nicely:

I think with the few changes to my old RC-5 - It'll be accompanying my on a few more trips this season !

    Thanks for looking
