There is an Ebook management program called "Calibre" that is free software, and it has the ability to manage a library and also can convert Ebooks from PDF to Kindle (Mobi) format, Nook (Epub), PDF and several other formats .
I have had pretty good luck with it on the conversion process.

Hi all,
There are lots of excellent books on all sorts of information on the kindle. Some of them are very cheap indeed. Probably because it is cheaper for the publisher to offer it on the ebook than print it.
I actually wrote a kindle book on Friction fire myself which is availble to lend or buy on amazon. I wont give the name as I understand that it is not allowed.
