I'm sure a lot of peeps will mention it, but definitely the USGI poncho for me. It's pretty much the only shelter I use anymore when I'm out solo. A terrific multipurpose piece of gear. I have a genuine one and a knockoff that I use for different purposes. But if you can get a genuine one, it's really superior to the knockoffs in many ways.

I've also become a believer in the standard USGI canteen. I love my basic Nalgene bottles, too, but recently discovered the GI canteen is a much more useful shape for some of the packs I use.

Oh ... and also the USGI Sustainment Pouch. They work great as a possibles bag, an auxiliary pocket on a larger pouch, even as small panniers on a bike!

My medium ALICE pack, my USGI ICW sleeping bag and my USGI wool blanket. I also use a swiss bread bag for day hikes. I have a German rain camo rucksack for my car EDC. My bush boots are USGI black leather combat boots also.

ALICE Pack for sure, they are hard to beat, old style 1 qt canteen and a 2 qt bladder style canteen. I also use a Pistol Belt and ammo pouches. About anything Military Surplus is a good place to start, well built, dependable, and easy to acquire.
