The only surplus item I carry with me to the bush is my wool blanket, so I guess that is my pick.

I use a usmc ILBE pack. All my pouches are military and also my day belt kit is all military. I use the usmc digital bdu shirt and pants. I also use the usmc bates 85502 goretex boots. My rain gear is goretex. Other than those everything else isn't surplus. And I also NEVER dress in the full bdu uniform.

    USGI E.C.W.S.
    Numerous wool clothes
2-pairs of combat boots. One pair of old style paratrooper boots and a new pair of Bates.
2-3 day assault packs. One i use as a B.O.B. The other is my gym bag and get home bag.
Canteen cup with stove and trioxan
Literally more then I can remember. The Military stores have always been my favorite place to shop, even as a kid.
Always found something I had to have.

I have so much Military surplus stuff I am not going to go into it all. One of my hobbies is airsoft Mil-sim games, so it does double duty. Really about anything that isn't directly related to combat (munitions, mil spec radios, etc) is adaptable for bushcraft use..

To me bushcraft gear is "anything that works" with an aim on simplicity and minimalism.

It’s hard to pick a favorite but if I had to pick it would be the Canteen with cup, stove and pouch.

I have tons of military surplus stuff. Way more than any one person should. The things I use most frequently are:

    USGI canteen and canteen cup
USGI gortex bivy bag from the ECWS sleep system
    USGI poncho
USGI CFP-90 pack and patrol pack
    USGI medium ALICE pack
    USGI BDU pants
    USGI M-65 field jacket
USGI LC-1 suspenders and pistol belt
    USGI buttpack
all kinds of pouches that I can put on the pistol belt depending on what my needs are for the outing

While the above may seem like I am into the "tacticool" look, that's not the case. I just like the old military gear as it is durable and I can get it very cheap at a mil surplus store about 5 miles from my home.
