Bushcraft Basic Lessons 6/13, Electives 4/5, Outings 0/5
Go light, and the lighter the better so that you have the simplest material for health comfort and enjoyment.
I'd have to go with my SAK Mechanic. It seems like I'm always needing a pair of pliers.
Since it's smaller and lighter than my Leatherman, I carry it way more often and use it for everything.
Another vote for the farmer. Just right for edc or as part of a nessmuk trio.
I've been wanting the German Army model.
Recently got a farmer, it has become my favorite SAK
My most favourite SAK is Victorinox Spartan - for me it's the optimum balance of tools and weight. It has all the basic tools for me. I had two, lost both.
If larger, it would be Victorinox Explorer. I decided that I don't need the small saw - it can't cut anything I can't break and trim with the knife. The magnyfying glass is a good thing to have, especially if your phone's camera can't focus on things closer than a foot from the lens. I was given one, lost it.
Those large locking ones are fine too. Just incredibly ugly, I think. I had one, I probably know where it is but can't retrieve it. Oh the pitfalls of canoeing.
For the last few years, the Farmer...
Amazing tool, works like the first day.
Previous was the Swiss Champ, but became too heavy plus most of the tools never got used. Anyway, most of the times rides also in my pack, along with the SOS kit.
