I absolutely love this idea! What a great thread. I had no idea you could dry wood this way. I will admit, once in the Islands, I was without a dry pair of shorts, and placed a bathing suit in the microwave to dry it. Well it caught on fire and set off the smoke alarm in the hotel.
Do you apply the superglue in the interior of the bowl? Can one still use this safely to eat from? Why not just stick with the oil phase and skip the glue?
I have got to try this out. Thanks for the semi-tutorial, though I too am concerned about the use of superglue on a food implement.
i guess i should update my old posts every once in a while...
after a lot of reflection, i've sanded off all of the super glue.
i can not recommend using super glue, it apparently dissolves in water over time, and i don't really like the idea of drinking super glue with my coffee.
just oil on your eating utensils and cups fellas, just oil.

Killing a MW oven was one of my 1st thoughts. MW ovens work on the moisture in the food. Without moisture the MWs bounce back into the MW generator and fry it. That's why you'll often see directions calling for a cup of water be placed in the oven with a dry/drier item/food. It acts as a heatsink. But it also produces steam which can be counter productive to drying wood. Trying this in a newer MW oven might be Ok, but might mean the end for an older one.
Get a 5$$ to 10$$ microwave from a goodwill store , Clist etc .
I've dried many spoons , kuksas , knife handles and even a couple of hatchet handles to no ill effect .
YMMV
is all i use on wood stuff and knife handles....its perfect , look in stores first is cheaper -dont get it on 3bay

I read about putting your wood in a seal a meal bag. put your oil or antifreeze in the bag and vacuum seal it. you should be able to see bubbles coming out of the wood as the preservative gets sucked into the wood fiber.
This actually makes a lot of sense as they use very large industrial microwaves to dry building lumber. Interesting none the less.
That's a cool idea using the food vac for getting oil into the wood. If you got the bag roll to make your own bag you could even do an entire axe handle. Cool idea.
