One way is find everything you can that the tool just cant do worth a darn and then go out there and just get it done, do and see for yourself.
"they" say it cant skin, well go catch your self a big beaver and get ofter it, "they" say it cant carve well, make something unique you get the picture....Thats how Ive approached it, Took a little bit, but figured it out...
I look at it as a challanging tool, And Im allways up for a challange. For me thats just the way I learn.

A couple weeks ago I picked-up a used Tracker for a good price. I took it to my Harbor Freight 1x30 sander and gave the edge a nice sharp convex. Last weekend I went out to the high desert near Barstow and brought the Tracker along for some play time. First thing I did was split a log and make Shirley Temple curly-cues. I think the wood was alder. I also split a few 18" long pieces of gnarly eucalyptus, but of course I forgot to take pics of that. The edge stayed sharp the whole time.
Curlys:
The new grind worked really well:
I made a dangler sheath for it because the stock one just wasn't my bag. I used a brass D-ring and brass rivets and burrs.
More to follow...

Since we were going to the desert, we have to bring along our firewood. The place we buy it has a "load it yourself" pile of random mixed woods. This time I grabbed some pine that had wads of crystallized sap and seemingly fresh fatwood. I say "fresh" because the large piece on the left below is the outer wood/inner bark area and it's flexible.
I used the Tracker to shave some curls from some of the fatwood to see how well it burned.
Sparked:
I was trying to get a shot of the black smoke that billowed out of the little pile of fatwood. This was the best one I got. You can also see the black ooze from the piece of the white crystal stuff from the first picture.
I only got to use the Tracker for the weekend but I have to say I really liked what it was capable of and how it performed. The edge held-up well and the new grind worked for cutting and splitting. I still have some of the eucalyptus (I think) so I'll try to take some pics of tearing it up in the next few days. Thanks for looking.

Still getting used to scout carry, anyone else wear it slightly to the side?
Cut a bunch out of that video it wasn't exactly 16 seconds lol. I don't really carry an easy to use striker and the big knife won out for him. I'm putting him through bushclass. Not kidding. It will take some time due to personal things (moving) but I bet he can knock her out. The funniest part is gonna be watching him dealing with hanging a tarp in the wind.
