Here's the prize. A bag, 2 pieces of flint, a striker, 5 sulfur tipped "tsukebi", and some of the traditional tinder "hokuchi." See the link in the first post for info on it all. The two pieces of flint are awesome! I almost stole one and switched it out with the one I got in my more expensive kit as these are way better haha. The edges on the both pieces are long and sharp and will not require any knapping at all for a long time. Pretty cool flint kit I think honestly.

Between my neighbors barking dogs and my 5 year old I wasn't sure how this was going to work out for me. It seemed that the stars weren't aligned or the odds were stacked against me but when all else fails... Oh watch the video and you'll see! Starting a fire to win a prize isn't always easy but when all is said and done sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself and dig deeper.
Cubby I watched that earlier on the laptop and mine was sitting next to me when I opened it again so I showed it to him. Big oldfrom him, if he had an account you'd get his vote for sure. "Oh he's 5 like me? He has knife too like me*. And daddy has the same knife as his daddy. Just like me, we could be friends!"
* I'm not cool enough for him to have the mini tracker though just Opinels haha.

The fire isn't impressive or anything, but thought maybe some others out there haven't seen splitting a paper match.
I hope this is OK !
Thanks Cellis !!

That video was cool! Thanks. One of those things we have seen but not tried ourselves. I like how you had to put some umph into striking the match haha.
No you are disqualified because.. wait what? How did you do that with a ferro rod? That should not be possible I've been playing with burning my wet pieces over the week and NO. Disqualified. Great video man.

When I wake up tomorrow and clear my blurry eyes this one is over and it goes to voting.

just noticed this last night, eleven particular words got me thinking and.....
I present the "one-handed-one-strike-no-touch-self-feeding-fire-in-the-rain"
"Rube Goldberg" style.
video started out around 7.5 minutes, so I sped it up in spots to get it under 3 minutes.
Including set-up time, that was enough time in the rain for me, if I didn't let it get big enough say so, it won't hurt my feelings.
