PayPal Changes

I just went through an ordeal that I wanted to put out for everyone.

According to PayPal, a change in the Patriot Act now treats PayPal as any other financial institution. You will be required to provide proof of your identity via a state issued ID, proof of address via a bill and proof of your SSN via a copy of your Social Security Card.

Also, unless you have a business with a Federal EIN, your FULL name will be displayed for any PayPal transactions.

Your only option, if you do not want to provide this information to them, is to close your account.

Just an FYI for those that use PayPal.

What prompted that? I have had no notification of any such changes (Altho, I 'might have' previously provided identifying information??)

I've had my account hacked 3x. Its since been closed. But, this is VERY useful information...

They said it was a change in the Patriot Act and some banking Act. They said everyone will be getting the notification. They started in December.

this change will stop a lot of buying/selling. I wonder if vendors who use paypal as a way to sell things have been notified yet.

Thanks for the heads up Guy. Although it will be a pain in the rear for future transactions I will be closing my PayPal account, and not because of PayPal because I know they have a business to run and they can't do that by not abiding the law. There are many other things I would say out of frustration but I feel it may go against forum rules so I will withhold my comments.

No notification on the BCUSA business account there. This was my personal account that I have had for years.

I have recieved no notice, but if and when I do. I will no longer be doing business thru them, I will go to money order or cash. I don't need that headache.
