Reloading your own 45-70s is about the only way to go unless you literally have money to burn. I'm too lazy to cast my own bullets, so I buy pre-cast 500 grain Lymans, melt the smokeless lube out and re-lube them with SPG for black powder to shoot from my Sharps. I figure they're probably running me about 50 cents each using Swiss black powder (which is expensive at about $25 per pound). There is something about making them that's actually kind of fun though and it's usually a task that I look forward to as recreation. I also look forward to the flames coming out of the barrel, the big cloud of smoke and that deep boom.

    Default 45/70

Jump on it and start casting and reloading. The 45/70 is as good as it gets for an cast bullet rifle.

I really surprised at that price.....Standard Handi Rifles have been running $249 to 300 for about 5 years, and the Buffalo Classics more...saw a 45/70 Buffalo Classic this week for $479 w/peep sights.

That action will except most barrels in the program as well....

i sold my .45-70 to my youngest son 4 years ago when it looked like i wouldn't be able to again because of neurological issues. he loves it. i'd like to get another .45-70, or a .357 magnum. i do have a handi in .30-06 given to me by my children christmas a year ago. it is a dandy.

With proper bullets if a 45-70 won't kill it you don't need to be shootin' it I have had on since 92 I have killed deer out to 225 yards I gave $180 in 92

    Go back and buy it.

45/70 is one of the best barrels H&R makes and that is a GOOD price. Reloading is always needed in that caliber.
