I did not add a metal wedge, as I know some folks prefer not to have those. It's a nice tight fit and the handle has nice grain. The handle has a couple of coats of Linseed oil on it. this handle had a tiny bit of warp to it right at the end, but I decided to use it because it was a really nice fit for this axe and it felt good to me. just thought I would note that though. The oak has some nice figuring and the grain orientation was great for those who obsess about things like that.
I re-profiled and sharpened the edges but if you like to shave with your axe, then the winning bidder can have at it with the wet stones, etc. I guarantee it will chop wood right now though. .
