REVIEW: Gerber Camp Axe II (a.k.a. Fiskars X10 carpenter’s axe)

I just posted a video review of the Gerber Camp axe on YouTube:



I know this axe is not as traditional as some may like but it has worked well for me so far. If you do not have time to view the video below are a few of my thoughts regarding it.

Price: $39.99 plus tax at Academy Sports + outdoors $41
Weight: combined-2lb6.5oz, 38oz, Axe only-2lb3.9oz, 35.9oz
Dimensions: Overall Length-17.625in, Handle Length-13.25in Head Width-6in, Head Thickness-.826in, Handle Width-1.5in.
Materials: Head-Forged Steel???, Handle-Glass filled nylon, sheath-plastic
Manufactured in Finland

Pros:
Cost High Value
Sharp from the factory
Edge Geometry 30 degree
Lightweight
Easy to sharpen due to edge bevel (leather stop)
Handle ergonomics - locks hand in with handle flare
Comfortable in hand for long periods
Easy to choke up on
Works great for roughing out wooden projects like spoons and bowls
Lanyard hole
Non-stick finish
Length good for one or two hand use

Cons:
Sheath-should be a sheath for belt carry
Edge durability micro-chips (convex or create micro bevel)

Use:
Yard clean up
Splitting kindling
Car Camping
Bushcraft
Hunting
De-limbing trees
Backpacking if you don’t mind the weight
Carpentry
Construction
Hand to hand combat with the walking dead (Listed as such on Gerber website)

So What:
High value, easy to find, well made, durable, works great.

Just wanted to thank you for the review (I have an X7), but mainly to thank you for posting your thoughts on the forum post as well. I might be alone here and grumpy sounding, but I really dislike when people post a review on any forum and all they post is a link to their blog, to their YouTube channel, or to some other website they benefit from somehow. I love the format of "here's my review, and here's a link to the video if you want to see some action."
