I sold a 6" 357 mag Ruger Blackhawk 11 year's ago I sure wish I had kept it had such a nice kick
My first ever handgun is the Security Six 6" barrel. Paid $350 for her back in '08 when Barry O. was elected. I think I may have been gouged a bit due to the timing but it is my favorite gun out of my collection. It is a rugged dependable firearm that I may never get rid of.
They are certainly bullstrong.
I will inject the first real negative opinions, but the Sec/Ser/Speed 6 series had warts for me which I never could get past.
(1) The grip was obviously designed by folks who were used to single actions. It's got a smallish pawl way up there, but the grip will ride down in the hand Blackhawk style long enough to let that pawl build up some momentum, and smack the web or your hand with unpleasant force. It least it did for me, and a few other folks I know. This can be corrected with custom grips to some degree. The factory handles are not keepers.
(2) The ejector stroke is short. Ruger used one ejector for everything from the snubs to the six inch. So pointing the nose toward heaven was a habit you acquired in a hurry.
I may be off on the 3rd point, so I will set it off by itself, but I believe some mechanical parts for the early early guns are now scarce.
They just don't work for me.

Sold a SP101 to finance a Glock.... wish I had the SP back.
My Security Six grew legs almost 20 years back.... miss that thing.
I'm glad you kept it ! Good choice, I lust for a RSS for a backup carry gun ! I've seen some lookers out there

Yeah....me too.
I did not sell my Security Six though. That will be the last one to go.
Good to hear that the OP is keeping the SS SS. Security Sixes aren't all that common on the used market these days - a stainless version even less so. Glocks......are everywhere, and still being made.
I was told by an employee at the gun shop where I like to do my business that the Security Six and the Thompson Center Arms Encore pistol are the only two pistols to be manufactured that can repeatedly handle the hottest .357 Mag ammo available commercially. I don't know if there is any validity behind this but it makes you feel good.
