Thumbs up Serrated Knives dont suck!

I know a lot of people think serrated knives have no place in the woods, personally I think they make great bush knives. That being said all of my carry fixed blades a plain edged but all of my folders are either partially serrated or fully serrated. My favorite folder is my Ontario Utilitac II which is a Serrated tanto:O and it absolutely rocks for a bush folder. It has a fine tip for carving or digging splinters ect out of fingers and its serrations make some of the best feathersticks I have seen.

All im saying is dont knock it till you try it... you might like it!!!

    Thanks Bill

Its like a tracker, you catch it in the groove and just ride it down. They can make really fine shavings and curls.

    Thanks Bill

I have never been against them. I just dont like half half blades.

A straight fixed blade and serrated folder are an awesome combo.

I wasnt aware they were so good at shavings though and its good to know..

that's impressive i wouldn't expect that either, I still wouldn't carry one though. to me i only see disadvantages, i cant think of anything they do better than a sharp straight edge.

Guess I'm old fashioned because thats the way I feel - never did see the need for serations and I can make shavings just fine with a plain edge. But to each his/her own.....

I've been thinking of getting a part serrated blade, something like an esee 3, and keep the one serration that is closest to the tip of the blade, but then grinding down the rest to make a straight blade. The result would be the straight blade from the tip to the first serration, then a quarter round, then another straight blade. Kind of like a Tracker. Those serrations on the esee 3 look good for that - they are more like half circles than pointy arches.
