trying some low cost decent fixed blade such as the KaBar Piggyback, or the CRKT Ritter and Dogfish as proof-of-concept to see what lengths you can comfortably carry around your neck and in a pocket.
For me, this whole neck business doesn't work. The lower cost Chinese knives let me learn this w/o dropping the bigger bucks on, say, a Bark River.
If you wear loose fitting cargo pants as I do at work, it may be that a surprisingly large knife may be pocket carried. I statted with a Bark PSK, and went by steps up to an ESEE Izula fitted with handles.
As a PS, I found it quite easy to install a set of the lo-cost plastic Becker BK14 plastic handles on the Izula, and they add comfort w/o interfering with pocket or concealed IWB carry.
