Default Book of Eli prop reconstruction...

I am going to (attempt) to make a long barong type machete heavily based off of the prop used by Denzel in The Book of Eli, only with a wicked functional edge (unlike the actual props which are made blunt to prevent serious injury to the actors).

Here's a pic of him with it in his hand in the film:

And here's where I got my pattern:

Note that this is not my design. The only place that I will swerve from the original is that due to cost constraints (and the likelihood that I would never carry a 27" piece of steel anywhere with me) I am downsizing it to 18" length. Ther e may be another tweak or two that I will give it but by and large I will make a copy of the knife used in the flick. I will also create a sheath similar to that sold by the prop company who provided the machete to Denzel.

I ordered the steel tonight. I would encourage anyone who wishes to do this to post pics of their process in here as well.

Cheers
PMZ

Here's a pic of what it *might* turn out like:

With the holes placed higher for a longer lasting blade and the ricasso removed.
Although I'm thinking it would lose a little something without the ricasso. I don't usually like em on bushknives but I'm thinking with a blade of that type it would be suitable...
