Spent a couple nights this weekend with my good friend Matt (556mp) of MP Knives, and Alex (Adahy) of Adahy's Trading Post made a special guest appearance for the second night also.

Matt and I getting geared up to hit the trail. Almost ready to go...

On the trail. Since our chosen spot was a short hike in, Matt opted to bring a second pack just for his food :D

Matt's latest creation went along for this trip so he could test it out - a traditional style Leuku blade with stacked antler/leather/wood handle. This was a really cool blade and we had fun messing with it for various camp tasks.

Once we got our shelters all set up, first order of business was a fire to warm our frozen hands and get some coffee on. Here's Matt demonstrating his improvised pot lifter...

Nothing quite like the kettle on to boil!

Matt's friend CrazyH showed up for the second day and stopped in just in time for breakfast. Here he's demonstrating the Improvised Biscuit Holding Device.

Since CrazyH brought an MP Knives blade, along with mine we were able to line up three generations of Matt's work which was pretty neat to see. That's one of Matt's very first bushcraft blades, my Hiker model which was Matt's first post-injury blade; he actually did it entirely with hand tools and used it as part of his physical therapy work to rehabilite his hand. Last is the new Leuku blade that was only 2 days old at this point.

After breakfast we went for a hike up to the lake and decided to leg it up even further to the top of the mountain where we got an eagle's eye view of the landscape.

If we needed an indication of how weird weather's been this year, this is it - green ferns, the first 2 days of March, buried in snow from the last storm - ???

I did! So far so good. Takes a little getting used to since it's only around 10oz. But it doesn't act like a tiny axe.

Great photos Jay, Im glad I got to see you again.

    ...and this is a rare meetup...because I literally shot 0 photos!:11:

But thats ok because you seemed to have nailed it here Jay 8)

    Thanks all! :)

Just finished processing a monster-sized panorama I thought I'd share too.

Not sure I'll be doing that again any time soon... it took me *forever* to process the raw files and assemble everything, but it gives some impression of the view from the top. Best viewed in the largest possible size on Flickr if you want the full experience :D

This is a photo from the lake showing the rock ledge that we were on, where Jloden took the panorama shot from.

Badarse photos Matt. I regret not being there the first day to take photos up on that ledge with you lads. Looked like camera heaven up there.

I instantly saw a face too. That's too funny.

It looks like this sort of armor

Terrific photos, J. You couldn't ask for a better group of guys to hang with, either. Props to Matt for the dedicated 'Food Rucksack'. Lol.

Just saw your profile too, J ... I'm a fellow Hunterdon dude as well. We should talk one day.

Thanks. That's pretty normal for Matt, I'm pretty sure most of his pack is usually food anyway :D Benefits of short hike-in trips, no need to skimp on the food and extras!

Good to meet another Hunterdon County resident on the board too!

Great photos... The kettle shot over the fire could be used for the cover of a GSI catalog! Where was the outing if you don't mind me asking. I'm in NY and new to this site would love to get in on an outing.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the photos.

I'm the out-of-stater so I'm not the best person to ask (I just know how to get there from Matt's place haha) but it's the Pochuck Mountain area near Pine Island, NY. I believe the AT crosses in the area also.
