It does not have shoulder straps. I wouldnt use them if they did. I usually do the MOLLE II conversion. But for the pack and frame is it worth it?

I would say it is a good buy. I paid $25 for mine, and ended up changing the straps out so no lose there.

what a coincidence I saw some alice packs for sale in our local thrift store for the same price. but I didnt get one. My alice pack cost me 30 dollars and another 15 for the frame not the best deal in the world. 20 dollars sounds good to me.

Gotcha, was going to tell you if you don't mind the drive, there is army surplus in ft Walton beach on beal street. Great deals on med and large packs, and they have huge boxes of them to dig through and pick one you like. Same with straps, in boxes pick ones you like. Med w/straps shoulder & kidney including frame $30, pretty sure large xtra $5-10. I got a med from them a few weeks ago practically brand new. Took it when i hiked eglin Sunday, loved it. Store in P'cola way to expensive and packs pretty beat up, store in panama city a joke, they strip shoulder pads off packs and sell them for $10 to $15 APIECE! And med packs ate $40 no frame. They acted offended when I told them what I thought about that.

Lots of gear, lots of packs, cordage (although 550 is cheapest @ P'cola store $7.80 per 100"). Ammo cans .30 cal $10, .50 cal $12. Canteens, mess kits, stoves, gas masks, clothes, pouches (got a condor m4a1 emt pouch for $18 in OD) for my main pack. cool part was they were out of the OD and ordered for me at no xtra cost for shipping. Man lots of stuff, and of they dont have it they will find and order for you, most importantly really good/nice people.

No problem, I've learned so much here in such a short time and with the overwhelming generosity by all the members it's nice to be able to finally help someone myself.

I know, was talking to couple who just bought it, they didn't realize amount of stuff TP dealwith. She said they would be thinning out junk stuff and restocking and adjust prices, we'll see.

Man you guys are pretty lucky. The surplus store I went to the other day wants $90 - $100 for full setup packs in fairly good condition (even with some dude's name scribbled on it with perm marker). They want $50 for just the packs without frames/straps in not so good condition. There's another store a few towns over, thinking about checking them out to see if they are more reasonable.

When you find one in my area the Large tend to sell cheaper than Mediums because the large requires a frame.

Good price, these days I would not pay more than $25 being old gear. In fact, just picked up a nice one (no frame) for $15.

If you get it and mod it post pics, I'd like to see a different straps set up.

Here is my pack. Did the Hellcat Mod. Also upgraded all the buckles for easier use. Paracord handle. Stuffed it full of a wool blanket and three MREs to show full size. Even rockin my original Black Hills Area Council Patch from my scout days :)

I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. But hope to in a month.

I have Med & Large ALICE packs, and the Italian Alpini as well. By FAR my favorite is the Alpini - I did the ALICE strap conversion, as well as the mods to the bedroll straps underneath. Great pack for 2-3 days in the woods, and it just feels great. Nice pic, btw. Thanks for sharing.
