    All this axe talk today reminded me of a photo some of you might enjoy. This was taken by a friend while he was staying with the Nenet reindeer herders on the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia. Children are not formally taught anything, but learn all skills by mimicking their parents. The photo says it all.

    Reminds me of that picture of Inuit toddlers with knives cutting seal fat to eat. Raised the right way in respect to the tools.

    HA! You mean like this one? I have a few hundred photos from that trip - I'll have to go through them to see what's relevant to bushcraft.

    It wasn't that pic in particular but yes same idea, a toddler respecting the knife for what it is.

    You snapped that pic?

    So much to be said over such a simple image.

    No, I didn't take the photo, but a close friend did. I have worked with him for years figuring out techniques in primitive technology and the such. He is director of the local Native museum.

    I will bet that is how KA-BAR USMC looked when he was a little guy
