First off I want to thank d37fan for this great idea, all the credit goes to him.

I made a Google map to help out the members here at BCUSA to help compile a list of public land open to bushcrafting. The link to the map, it is editable but private (won't show up in searches).

Here is map to post good areas for practicing bushcraft. Listing public land available to bushcraft is the key goal, but and members that have land they would like to share are more then welcome to share.

How it works is you click on the red edit button, then on the map you can chose a marker to place on the map, there are all kinds of markers to chose from. Fill out the details that you want, then save.

This is a great idea. I'm going to make it a sticky and keep it up for a while. If it becomes successful we will leave it up permanently so let's share our favorite places!

Bill, I'm not seeing a Edit Button. Do you need to add me to a list or something to grant me permission?

This is a cool idea! Quick, someone in the Sacramento, CA area put a pin on the map so I can learn what a Bushcrafting friendly area looks like. I'm not sure if the public land I do my bushcrafting on is.

Theres no list or anything, when you open the link the edit button should be to the left of the direction pad on the map(top left corner). LMK if that helps.

    Thanks Bill

I made a tag, but it reads as "Placemark 9" instead of Coopers Creek Wilderness Area. Not sure what I did wrong...

I edited it so it reads Coopers Creek Wilderness Area. If you want to add info go under edit and double click it and it should bring up a text box to add text to it.

    Thanks Bill

Im gonna have to keep tabs on this. To date, all my camping/hiking/bushcrafting has been at state parks rather than public land. I hope to see something pop up in my area. :)

Great idea, Bill. Very useful. One question - what qualifies a piece of land as "good for practicing bushcraft" or "available to bushcraft?" Is it easy access? Good resources? Friendly regulations? All of the above?

Thanks for the credit, but I just stole the idea from another site. :16: I'm not that creative and was surprised I got it to work the first time anyway.

I imported the google earth data from http://www.wilderness.net/index.cfm?fuse=NWPS&sec=geography for the deam wilderness area in Indiana. It seems to be a little buggy , let me know if it works ok. I could add all the federally recognized wilderness boundaries but I think that would basically kill the map to have all that stuff on it.

Make sure to verify that your Google settings are private, guys. It seems obvious, but I found a few old maps linked to my account that had defaulted to PUBLIC, and included my home address.

Added a few in East Texas. One I could not add is the Neches Bluff Overlook. since it is off of service roads and off the beaten track per say the map won't allow it to be added. But if you are in the Weches Texas area (Mission Tejas Park, Ratcliff Lake Park, Davy Crockett National Forest) It is a good place to camp out for a day or three. Very primitive if you are not in a park by the way and not certain of the regs out there these days. It's been awhile.

Awesome idea! I'll have to add the small spot I frequent when I get to a regular computer. I can't figure out how to do it on my iPad or phone.

Added about the only legal public area to backpack camp in the whole of Northern Indiana . Blood Root trail .

I added two. One is my favorite nearby public National Forest. The other is another unit of that same forest where we held the 2012 LA gathering back in April.
