Ok, I know only a few people have gotten their BCUSA tarps. But, I have mine so I wanted to go into my own little woods and set it up in a configuration I have wanted to try. All of my other tarps have been rectangular. This one is square, and I think I really like the possibilities.

This shelter is a lean-to type with a little twist.

I tried to set this up so it is pre-rigged and you can set it pretty quick. A quick side note in the pic below you can see it has a label that says"Tie to tree". You can use a ridge line or pole instead of just tying 550 to the tarp.

This pic shows how to rig a ridge line to the webbing loops.

This is just one way to rig this bad boy. Lets use this thread to see the different ways we can rig our BCUSA tarps.

Yes I think you will be able to get one as soon as Faol does another run. I am not sure how many deep he is. You could Pm him and ask.

    Great thread.

Can anyone provide details/pictures of how big/small the package is all packed up?

Any ideas what this setup weighs?

I think I will need one of these. :)

    Another A Frame

This set up only takes 4 pieces of line and 3 stakes. One of the things I like about this set up is that you can have a small fire in front of it since the peak is so high.

I try to get the first corner as high as I can and tie a taunt line hitch.

The next step is to stake out the rear of the shelter.

After that you stake out the two sides.

Once again a 10x10 is a very roomy tarp.

Both of those are nice. I think the IA option would be good to redirect the wind, especially during the winter. Homeslice was doing something similar at the winter meet, and he said it worked good, wedged into the wind.

I can't wait to try some of these. There was a picture around of someone who'd rigged a shelter with just one trekking pole. I'll have to try to dig it up. That shelter looked great.

That's the one! Thanks a bunch Mac. The last one, with the dog, looks like it'd be a good, roomy but fairly weather-freindly shelter.

two pole setup, uses only 4 to 6 ft of cord and 6 pegs

I received my new BCUSA tarp yesterday. This is not my first tarp, but it IS the first I have owned that is so nicely finished. It also my largest tarp.

I strung it up today between two trees in the back yard. I was amazed at how quickly it can be put up in a simple A frame shape, with the top mounted loops for the cord, and a couple of stakes per side. It rode out a very stiff thunder storm this morning. Winds were better than 50 mph, but the tarp was steady, and it was dry under it.

I am in the process of putting together a kit, specific to this tarp, that will go with the tarp when I take it afield. Cordage, S Biner hooks, stakes and 550 para cord, cut to length, and packed in a baggie.

Just a thought for you when you erect a tarp in that manner, you may want to think about putting a prusik knot on the out side tabs on the ridge line. That way you can tighten the ridge line so it dosent fold on you like in your pic

    Just tryin to help

took the pic just as I strung the tarp. When finished, I had a short length of para cord tied to the last loop, and that cord run back to the tree to keep things taut.

How much line should you have for this tarp as a ridgeline when stringing between two trees? Also what kind of cord. Paracord seems to have too much stretch.

I'll use a heavier nylon rope for riggin in this manner, I think my bundle is 30 feet wich is plenty. The determining factor is how far appart the trees are.

These are pics of my Brit Basha, notice how the use of a prusik knot keeps the tarp very taunt

Panzer, Zing-it is a brand name cord. Works great on tarps. I use it, with prussicks and it holds fantastic, and no stretch.
Available here, Opie makes a great product, and his prices are reasonable.

Zing-it is slick and does not like to hold many knots, it does best being spliced. You can buy it by the foot or Opie has a pre-built ridgeline available, here.

I used some 5/32 poly line. It takes knots well, does not stretch much, and is fairly light weight.
How much you use depends on where you use it, of course. How far apart the trees are, and how big around they are. In this instance, I cut a piece 35 feet long, but could have done with less.

There were 3 black bags in the first run, but 2 tarps worth of damage occurred to the 2nd run of 30, so all the bags were black for those 28. Now their are less tan bags...ooops.
