I bought this hand forged bolo machete at a flea market for $10. the blade was nice and thick and the handle said made in japan so i thought it to be some quality steal.
the old handle was very uncomfortable, plastic attached with rivets. the blade was rusty and the edge needed some work.
I removed the handle and gave it to a friend who is a wood worker and said he would fab a handle out of black walnut. I was looking for a pot large enough to do solphilos's froced patina technique but got sidetracked. my buddy who still had the machete said if i wanted he would sandblast it, redo the edge and then gun blue it if i wanted. i was bussy and got lazy said i told him to go for it.
I am very happy with how it turned out. awesome edge, great finish and an awesome looking and very comfortable handle.
    thought i would share it.

I like it. I'm sure you'll find it a great general purpose blade.
