I can tell you that, even without searching, it will be too heavy for backpacking.
my canvas sleeping bag cover weighs 11pounds // 5 kilos

I just build smaller fires or use the Hobo stove, I have got some smaller holes in my first cover but they were easily fixed and I'm much more careful now.
    Canvas is good but heavy

    ok,

I'll try that, or use a 2-4oz canvas top cover to go over the bivy i guess, i can
make that out of a painters cloth or go get a 400-600 count sheet and treat it
and cut it down, that should be light wgt enough...i seting up nessmuk type camps, when i stop for the day...

    scott

What about using a canvas MEST (5'X7') as a cover? It weighs in at 2.9lbs...

I bought 2 - 5 by 7 canvas tarps. One is a rear cargo mat for my jeep , the other I washed most of the chemicals ( fireproofing, etc.) out of it as it smelled a bit , put an army blanket and a flannel sheet in it and rolled it up with straps.

I paid about $60 for each tarp. They are made here in Alberta and are high quality.

Definately too heavy for backpacking , but good for car trips to a place where I do tarp camping.

Now that everyone has decided the item needs to be replaced, and no one has answered the origional question, let's use some simple math.

    Tentsmith uses 10 oz canvas.

The bedroll is 32x84, or about 4 yards of fabric. That is 40 oz, or 2 1/2 pounds.

2 1/2 pounds is not excessive for a bevy cover that also replaces a tent and reduces the weight requirement for a sleeping bag.

As for the Aussie bedroll at 11 pounds????

Aussie canvas must be a half inch thick and bulletproof. That or he is weighing his 9 pound woogie along with the cover.

Also keep in mind that Tentsmith designs gear intended for transport to and from a site by vehicle or horse. It is buckskinning gear, not backpacking gear.

Tentsmith is a US company and over here we use a different way of measuring the weight of fabric.
In the USA it is the weight per linear yard off the roll, over here it is the weight per square metre /square yard.
An Australian 16oz canvas is 2 times as heavy as an American 16oz canvas if you use the standard 6 foot roll.
My swag is made with 32oz canvas so YES it weighs 11 lbs,
Language does not always mean the same thing when moving from one country to another.
Lots of other stuff comes into the equation too, for instance what you all call muslin we call calico, what we call cotton duck you call canvas so my apologies for the confusion, if the bedroll is 10oz by US measure it will be 4.5/5oz by Australian measure and not too heavy for backpacking short distances.
We have a very tightly woven 100% cotton cloth we call Japara, you call it balloon silk that could be used if it wasn't so expensive.
I would still be using the Goretex myself.
By the way it isn't the bedroll that weighs 11 lbs, that is just the canvas cover, add a CCF pad, foam mattress, pillow, sleeping bag and pile blanket and it weighs a heck of a lot more.
Modern Aussie swags are meant for throwing in the back of a truck not travelling by horse or foot, not like the originals at all.

Mine weighs about 2.5lbs as well,I love the canvas bedroll! I bought mine from Beckel canvas because I wanted one with a zipper,It also unzips completely and has gromets to be used as a small tarp if need be.

I think there's is zipper only, but I believe the ones from tentsmiths and panther primitives use ties. Perhaps if you call and ask they may be able to make whatever you want
