    Spokane, that is.

I spent my high school years in a little town called Milpitas, CA, just north of San Jose. There were these foothills due east of town that I used to hike around in. I'd ride my bike up there, stash it in the bushes and go exploring.

Now, here I am, 58 and overweight and longing to rediscover that love of the outdoors.

I went camping this past August for the first time in about ten years. Just a couple nights, solo - I'm divorced, live alone. It felt good. I mean, I slept in my van, wasn't exactly roughing it. But I did do a little bushcrafty thing with some branches I found. Used them to make an X to help support my tarp for a little shade.

I've been watching a lot of bushcraft videos lately. Man, I really respect people who can do some of the amazing things I've been seeing. Hope to at least learn a little of that stuff and get back out there. Ain't gettin' any younger. Best start gettin' to it.

Hello and welcome. That looks like a handy bit of shade. August around here is usually pretty hot for camping, but it looks like you have a good quantity of liquid in arm's reach.

I think you mean that August is usually miserable.

Greetings from the wet side of the state. The most important thing is to get out and enjoy, and learn from the great folks on here for the stuff you have not yet tried.

Yeah, it was mid 90s on that little outing. I spent the days just hanging out in shorts in the shade.

Looks like Bowl & Pitcher State Park there in your picture...

I'm also in Spokane. If you ever want to make a smoky fire and shoot the poop, let me know

Welcome from East Texas. I grew up in the Spokane area, been in Texas for about 25 years now. Eastern Washington has a lot of good places to tramp in the woods. You can learn a lot from this site, then go to the woods, practice and enjoy.
