    So here it is:
    Official date is:
    April 20th through the 22nd 2012

ADMISSION IS FREE AND ALL CLASSES ARE FREE
There will be a donation box, put in whatever you like or nothing at all. It's not a problem either way. I would like to be able to at least have enough there to distribute to each instructor there so they can maybe get a burger for the trip home. It's not mandatory so don't worry if you're short on cash.

Official location is: Same place as last year
Mark Twain National forest: Pine Ridge recreation area
Kind of ironic to have a hardwoodsman's meet in a place with pines. They were planted by the corp in the 1930's.
    Google map on the location:
    Location map
Here's some info on the site:
    Pdf and small map
Small write up on what's available
No showers on site. But there are two vault toilets and a hydrant for water. I'd purify the water though if I were you.
Parking is limited at the site.

There are a few parking lots that aren't to far from the site. If you get to pine ridge and there is no place to park just holler at somebody to come pick you up at one of these parking lots. We'll bring you back to the site and you can set up camp.
This one is to the east of Pine Ride a couple miles. We can get probably ten to fifteen vehicles in this one.
It's the biggest of the three. You'll just have to park over in the grass because it's more of a long circle drive then it is a parking lot.

This next lot is less than a mile from the site to the east.
It looks like it'll hold six to eight vehicles if we stack them in there.

The last lot is also less than a mile from the site only it's on the west side.
It's the smallest of the three. Probably only two to four vehicles here because they don't want the gate blocked.

Here's what the parking looks like at the main site
    [IMG]
We can get about four vehicles where those cars are parked and another three or so parked along the road on the opposite side.

Then finally each camping site has parking for two to four cars each which is good.

The bad news is that this seems to be a pretty popular place. There will likely be spots taken since it's a first come first served sort of deal. That's not a problem because we can go camp in the woods but it is a problem for parking. But hopefully with the additional lots we'll be able to have enough room.

The advantage we'll have is that there are several of us coming in Thursday and Friday so I think we'll be most of the weekenders to the site. I hope.

FYI: THE CENTRAL MEETING SPOT FOR ALL CLASSES TO START WILL BE THE GRASSY AREA UP NEAR THE OUTHOUSES. OR A PARACHUTE TEPEE IF TERRANCE BRINGS IT.

There are very few camp sites in this area and it's first come first serve so be aware that unless you get here early you probably won't get one.
But that's ok, as with all National forests we are allowed to disperse and camp anywhere we want. Just be respectful and camp a good distance off any trails.

If you disperse from the main campsite (most will probably have to) know that this is Missouri. Even though this site is at the border of the Ozarks there are still lots of hills and rocks so if you have a hammock that would be a good way to camp here.

Open fires are legal, just be responsible with them. Don't leave a fire unattended and when you do leave put it out dead cold. Also, the rules state that you may not cut any standing timber....live or dead. Only downed wood is acceptable for use. Don't bring firewood from home, it's illegal.
In light of the above information I'd encourage everyone to bring a camp stove of some sort to cook their meals on since firewood will likely be scarce around an established campsite.

    ********************************************
Meals will not be provided and everyone is on their own on how to feed themselves.
    *********************************************

There will be no one under the age of 18 allowed. This is an adult environment so be aware you will hear some things that may not be acceptable to you. If that is the case please do not come, I don't want you to be put off by the experience.

No alcohol allowed. But most importantly NO DRUNKS ALLOWED.
There won't be any blatant drinking going on. If somebody wants to have sip in a "stealth cup" that's fine. But we won't allow any straight out boozing.
Same as last year. A few guys had a couple drinks and policed themselves well. I wanna treat people like adults and give them some leeway.
If it becomes a problem this year then there will be no Hardwoodsman meet 3. Or it will more than likely become an invite only meet.

You can stay up and shoot the breeze as long as you like but please be respectful of others and keep the noise down.

    No pets allowed.

Post in this thread if you intend to come barring some unforeseen, unavoidable event. Please do not sign up here if you might come.

This is for the final count.
If you don't know for sure right now don't sweat it. Just sign up as soon as you know for sure.

Class schedules may change depending on when instructors arrive. Everything is pretty fluid at this point but it'll be busy and fun.
With most classes you'll be able to participate, not just watch.

    WHAT TO BRING?
In addition to all your normal camping gear for an event of this length please make sure you bring:
Pencil or pen and a few sheets of paper if you plan to compete in the skills event.

There will also be a Turley knife and a custom firesteel by Skogkniv as a first prize for the skills competition overall winner.

Bushcraft outfitters (as far as I know) will be bringing some gear to sell so if you're interested in saving shipping then keep this in mind.

Thanks for coming and being part of the group. Looking forward to it already.
    God bless,
    Iz

Will do my best to try and swing both this and Woodsmoke, but it'll all be entirely dependent on what airfare or traveling plans end up being. Missed last year by a bit and have been thinking about it since. So hopefully the stars align and I can make it.

Probably be cheaper to take a bus if you can swing the time, and you can take your gear with you.

As of right now, it looks like I'll be able to be there! :51: Barring nothing happenes tween now and then.

If anyone close to NE AR or SEMO, or anyone wanting to meet half way, then we can get a carpool up. I got enough room in the Honkytonk Minivan for at least 5 guys and gear. maybe more if those guys are Iz-sized or Joe-sized. :9:
If any are interested, just PM me and we'll work out the details so everyone is happy. Plus, splitting the costs will be a lot cheaper on everyone. I am in NE Arkansas right now, about 20 minutes from Doniphan, but we can work out a good central meetup spot if need be.

    Duh. heh.
Yeah, that and we couldn't the Iowa site secured so it put the time crunch on things. Scouting for a new spot would have taken a couple months and that would be a no-go with as many pms I've been getting wanting the info.

So, it's another hardwoodsman meet.....in the pines.

I'll be there by noon on Thursday... I'll be coming off of a string of mid shifts so I'll probably hit the hammock early (just like last year). Or maybe I'll take a nap when I get there so I can hear some of the late night stories :dblthumb:

What kind of temperatures should I expect that time of year in that area?

Last year we were there about a month later, we had had hot weather, stormy weather, and some cooler weather.
It is held in the same location.

Avg April is 60s during the day, and mid to upper 40s at night. Bring rain gear. This is MO so it very well might be 90, or it might be 30.....again, bring rain gear. Lol

+1 on the rain gear. I didn't bring rain gear last year and I got to be "that guy" during one of the more interesting downpours. BRING RAIN GEAR!

Yeah that is how I ended up wearing Terry's mest during the down pour (thus I was "that guy") Even a cheap poncho would be better than nothing. Really worth the investment. :D

By the end of the Meet Terry had the nick name of Dad. He was just like growing up, had all the cool stuff, and if he loaned it to the kids, they were usually hard on it and tried tearing it up. Good times
