Show us what you caught and extra points if you say how.

How much ice did you have? I don't know that I'd trust the ice around here yet. We had that good deep cold, but with the rain and snow melt and warm temps, I'm not sure how sound it is.

Yeah I know you can supposedly go out on 2" of "good ice", but ice is not something that I care to mess with. I won't even start thinking of ice fishing until it's over 6" thick. Nope, nope and nope.

Yeah! I did a thread on this last season. Ice in at my neck of the woods. Here's my catch from Friday [12/22/16]. This is the earliest I've ever been able to ice fish. Previously it was Christmas day a few years back.

    I was out on 12/21/16
    Northern Iron County, WI
    5"-8" of ice
First time out this year for me.
I wanted some smaller Northern Pike to pickle.
I kept two, a 19" and a 21". Caught them on suckers and Beaver Dam tip ups, 3'-4' of water. Slow day, but nice to be out. It was a warm up after a below zero cold snap.
No actual fish pictures, but this is the lake.

The lake I fish has a wide variety of species; large & smallmouth bass, yellow & white perch, chain pickerel, pumpkin seed, sunfish, brook trout and brown trout. These brookies tend to run in shallower waters along the shore. Many folks in Maine won't fuss over a pickerel, but if I get a large enough one I'll keep it. Bony, but delicious.

Very well known spot, on the winter stocking list. There were holes from previous visitors but we had it all to ourselves today.
I was surprised it had as much ice as it did. All the bigger ponds and lakes had open water.

I consider myself risk averse and wouldn't have taken any chances. My fish crazed friend went out first and drilled some holes. He also weighs a few pounds more so I'd like to think he is a good initial judge of ice quality. We had a back-up plan to squirrel hunt so that would have made walking away easy. Turned out the area had a rock solid 4+ inches of ice. I like to always drill my own holes and the difficulty, sound and consistency of the ice as the auger drills provides a lot of information.

The ice fishing really sucks down here in Florida...but open water, fresh or salt is world class!!

Only a little action today in the rain on the ice. The rainbows did not hit so we tried another spot and hooked into a few perch. Slow day overall. They took trout magnets twitched about a foot off bottom.

I need to take more photos.
You guys make all these cool posts and I got nothing.

I spent seven hours on the ice Saturday, missed 3 and landed two northern pike, a 19" and a 21".

It was super windy, and really slow fishing, and my propane heater didn't heat. But I wasn't at work, so.......

Ice isn't that good in Tennessee, but those look like some good catches. Always wanted to try ice fishing, just never been far enough north to try it.

Lake Erie walleye. Ranged in size from six pounds, to the big fourteen pounder my buddy caught. All caught on ice fishing spinning rigs, 4lbs micro ice, and glow in the dark spoons.
