    Howdy all,
I have a source for these, they are legit 100% wool Italian officer's blankets... they are grey-ish, with the lighter stripe. He is offering them for $49 apiece, but I can get them at a special price from him for $30 each. Is this a good price for them? I plan on picking up at least two, maybe up to four if I get the bug to make a pull-over.

    So, what do you think?

I know those things were in high demand for a while. I searched and searched for one and never could find one. Now I am stuck with a crappy wool blanket I will never use.

Thats normal price most get them for at surplus stores. You can sometimes get them for 25 or so on a deal.

I had posted a link to Israeli wool blankets for around 16 bucks shipped in the gear deals. I should get them in the next few days. So if you didn't have to have the Italian ones those might be cheaper for you.

Is there a link? Do you have pics? What's the quality? And $30 is about normal for good ones with no holes or thin spots.

I bought an Israeli wool blanket from cheaper than dirt and it came with a huge square cut out one of the corners. The blanket is nasty and would not even touch it. Worthless any opinion.

The only place I have recently seen the Italian blankets was shipping for around $70. I wouldn't mind getting another one, where did you find that deal?

The Israeli ones that I got are really nice. I did a review and put up some pics in the gear deals section.

Duuno about foreign stuff but US surplus is tossed into huge crates and sold at pennies per pound. The stuff will range from brand new to junk that looks like it was run through a shredder. A good sales store sorts through and disposes of the trash, selling only good condition stuff. So a lot depends on who you buy from.

Keep an eye on Sportsmans Guide. I got some Italian 100% wool officer blankets for something like $15 each a while back.

$30 seems like a deal I'd jump on if they're in good shape. The local store to me has them for $40 in decent shape. I keep meaning to pick one up but haven't gotten around to it yet.

That's where I got mine, gotta love the free shipping cause this thing is heavy. Oh and they aren't kidding about the mothball smell, if you get one, do yourself a big favor and open the box outside. I hung mine out on my back screened in patio for 2 days to get rid of the smell.

Guess I should have added...The blanket is really nice. It seems well made and is not itchy.

If it has "style" in the name it's not the real deal. It is also 90% wool 10% "other". I think the real deal Italian blankets weigh in at around 6lbs and the shipping weight on this one is 4.25lbs.
Some Rothco stuff is good. This one has me intrigued because it isn't surplus but does have the smell...

I have to say that this actually sounds like a better blanket to me.

-If it's 4.25, then it'll be lighter to carry.
-it's considerably cheaper than the "original".
-90% wool is close enough for me.

My only reservation is the point you made, that it isn't surplus yet it apparently still has the mothball smell. Does that mean the review is inaccurate? Or is this somehow a surplus and wasn't labeled as such? Looks like I'll just buy one and let you guys know.

I'm in the same place you are with it. I just have a hard time dropping $40 on an unknown. One good review. One bad review. Weight and size sound perfect. Smell? Enh...
I'm hoping you have a good experience with yours and definitely am interested in a review.
I may be finding myself in need of a good wool blanket for a couple of winter trips. I have a 30 degree bag and figured a heavy wool blanket paired with it would make most winter nights here in VA bearable.

Well, I decided to not gamble on the Rothco. Instead I just bought an authentic one off of ArmyNavySales.com for 39.99 plus 8.99 shipping. Total was $48.98.

If I can come up with the cash, there is a possibility that I'll pick 1 up, but it might not be for another month or so. Tax return at the latest.
I figure worse case if its not itchy it will go on the couch. If it is itchy it might go under the couch cover.
