Good morning all, I jus thought I would share this with you. I woke up this mornign to find that for the second time this week it is -50degrees Celcius outside, that translates to -64.4 Fahrenheit. THat is with the wind chill factor but it is -42 without. Incidentally the Fahrenheit and Celsius scales meet up at -40 and then differ again. It's cold out thats for sure.

Holy doodle! That's seriously chilly! Just a suggestion, if I may - don't choose tonight for your "night out with only a wool blanket" outing.

-30c near Ottawa and the goats have frosty beards this morning. Milking at these temps is no fun!

Second night in a row down to -30F here. My pipes froze under the house, luckily not burst, but I had to spend a half hour with the hand torch to get them thawed.

We've deen experiencing that same cold snap in the near north of Ontario. It was -38 Celsius here as of 9 AM. The forecast daytime high is -21 (that's a high of -6 F).

My wife and I went out for a walk yesterday and the cold and wind were making our eyes water. I am not exaggerating when I say the tears were frozen on our cheeks. But we just put on the wool layers with a thin wind-breaking nylon later over the wool and we weren't cold at all. You just need to dress right, have a full belly, and move around to keep the blood flowing.

Nevertheless, I'm happy not to be cold-camping out in this weather. The nights are really long at these temperatures, so that stretch of time between sundown and going to bed feels really long.

Plus 41 F and rain here in the "frozen north." I just love it when I can send messages like this to relatives in who give me grief for moving here - I've seen the time when it was 40 degrees warmer in this corner of Alaska that it was in Oklahoma. Love it.

-15C and blizzard conditions here in Edmonton Alberta.
No work for me for a while...herniated disc. Resorting to indoors knife sharpening , random Googling ,etc.
My wife is relegated to shovelling duties unfortunately.

I really miss summer and hope my back issue clears up before then !!

We have been in a deep freeze and steady cold temps at 15-25 Degrees for the past two months. A stagnant low pressure is just hanging on the Eastside of the Cascades. Freezing Fog and visibility sucks. We were going to hike up the mountain to hunt for sheds, but it's just too nasty up there yet. Nearly two feet of frozen hard pack still on the ground.
There has been no sunlight for a couple weeks. It's depressing.

We postponed our campout from Jan . 12 to this weekend because it was just too balmy and it is definitely more winter like now . Highs of about 10 to 12 degrees F last two days . One of the guys wives is going to sew us a patch if it gets below zero this weekend . I was just out in the barn making cozys for the water jugs because there may not be any snow on the ground .

That would bring most of Texas to a complete halt as well. Heck, when I was living in Austin, 1/4 inch of sleet shut the city down.

    Which was very nice!

I am 55km north of Lake Superior and the last few mornings it has been -44C without any windchill. Out on the lake it gets well below -50C with the wind. I I love the winter so I am very happy to have some nice cold weather.

We had a beautiful, calm -4*F this a.m. with a high of only 8*F here on the Pocono plateau. I had to check out a job site down in the flatlands along the Lehigh River all morning. Although it made it up to a balmy 13*F, the wind kicked up to 11-15 mph. It was a might chilly even in my Carhartt bibs and "go to hell" hat.

HA! I remember hiking around Unalaska island the first week of February 1991 in a T-shirt and a flannel when my folks were riding out temps in the low teens and lots of snow. That was a short-lived warm spell, though.

We have +16 degrees (F) here at the homestead.
Sure am enjoying being warmer than many of you folks in the lower 48!
Of course it is not going to last. Suppose to start snowing tonight and continue through Friday, 8 to 12 inches possible.
Then Friday night, temperatures are suppose to start dropping; possibility to -40 or so.
    Best Wishes

It has been getting zero-ish at night, which is pretty cold for here. My damn furnace won't keep up, and my house temp has been running a good 5 degrees colder than the thermostat setting.

We have hot water radiant floor heat which is normally nice, but slow to respond to these sort of cold snaps. I'm afraid to crank up the water temp setting for fear of damaging the floors.

I'd be better off in a yurt with a woodstove...

We had -48 degrees below 0 (F) here at the homestead yesterday and it was +26 degrees in the bed room, night before last.
We live on a little knoll, so were warmer than a lot of other folks who were experiencing -50 to -60 degrees.
Much warmer today at a balmy -16 degrees but the wind is hitting 50mph.
