We've got another workshop coming up on Saturday the 14th. If you want to learn how to make a knife, or just improve upon skills you already have.....

This will be taking place near Jacksonville, in Baldwin. If you're interested, let me know. There is no cost. You don't need any equipment. You do not need to bring anything. We should have three grinders set up and you will get one on one instruction. You will make a knife that day if you want to.

If you're interested let me know.

It won't be long before I'm living up in the area. I'd enjoy hanging out and picking up a few new techniques.

You use a forge don't you? I've done very little heat treating, could stand to learn some of those skills.

I used to use a homemade, and somewhat temporary forge for my heat treating. I wanted to get the process more reliable and repeatable so I sent with an oven.

Nice oven, saw a glass blower this last weekend, he was using a home made oven, no temp. control, which I imagine would be pretty handy in heat treating. I've been very lazy about learning heat treating and just been sending my stuff to Texas Kinfe Makers for heat treating.

We are building a refractory up at the farm for casting custom parts and making parts that have become rare, I have a couple of kilns that do have temp control but I guess I could use cones to watch my temps.

I look forward to meeting up with you.

You're welcome to come to do some heat treating rather than send it off. I would imagine that these smaller ovens (I can do a piece that is about 13" long)(goodness - that didn't sound at all like I meant it) would pay for themselves rather quickly. I think that waiting would frustrate me......I'm not that patient.

That's cool of you to offer these classes Crashdive. If my brother was still in Jax, I would try to plan a trip so that I could attend your class while I was there.

I mostly use 1095, L6, D2, A2, ATS34. I still have to work with other steels. I picked up some titanium to make some dive knives but haven't used it yet.
