Contest over: Man's best friend "give away"

We have a winner. PM sent

Ah 'tis springtime, when young men's fancies turn to bushcraft.

I was outside at sunrise in deep thought listening to birds chirping when I asked, "What would Turley knives be called if Iz had named them after dog breeds instead of rivers?"

Instead of the Gasconade that I wait ever so patiently for, I would have named it the Labrador Retriever knife.

    Rugged
    Great companion and friend
    Always a popular model

    Example:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/64332470@N05/6492905369/in/photostream

Sooooo, I will give away the following:

Turley #23 Silver Creek psk (1 year old and mint condition)
Alaskan Bear Breath mints tin can (similar to Altoids can)
Heavy duty sewing needles for repair or leatherwork.
Maybe some other junk that I find laying around.

To enter the contest, name a Turley model after a dog breed and say I'm in.

You need to be a Turley dude or dudette (fan).

By the way, this psk is a Miniature Pinscher.

The Model #22 Z-Sere would be the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Large, rugged and protective. Oh, and uncommon too!

Plus I really want both :D!

    Im in.

The Model #30 Arghandab River neck knife. Is a pitbull.
    Its not big, or bulky.
    It is lean, and wirey,
    a joy to own,
    loyal to its owner,
but its bite is much worse than it bark.

Well, I'd have to say the Mississippi would be a "great dane" -- to me.

Until you get around it...you think it's too big...but then it "shrinks" when you get used to it! :7:

Our neighbor has a 2 year old Great Dane...they say they are totally used to the little horse that lives in their house now! :54:

I'm in. thanks for the chance!

    I'm in.

The #23 Silver Creek I'll make a tribute to my wife's childhood dog that just passed.

    #23 Miniature Dachshund

    -Small, Fits in compact spaces
-Can almost always have it with you
    -Still has a mean bite
-Designed for chasing badgers out of holes. Okay, I don't think Turley had that part in mind. :D

Fun thread, I'm sure Iz is loving this, haha.

Hahaha. Great thread idea and great give away, Mr Jefe. My favorite dog in the world is a black lab, I had a good one when I was a kid. Great pic for the name, man.

    Ok I'm in, here's mine:

Model #19 Soldier River -> German Shepherd

It's a great worker, strong, loyal and dependable - plus it's clever and easy to work with.

Bonus is the #19 doesn't leave dog hair all over my couch and fleece jackets :D

    I'm in:

    Model #23- teacup Chihuahua
Mean little fella, loud bark, bad bite, and you can fit him in your shirt pocket.

I know that is a rough one, but I am a lab guy(I have a black British, named Lucy. 11 yrs and going strong) so I couldn't copy another fella!

    Great idea!

This may seem a like an odd one but the Model 30, Border Collie.

Not the biggest or meanest but has plenty of bite when the situation calls for it.
Loyal to a fault. Will be hanging around until physically unable/ broken.
Safe around silly people (no OH MY you have a KNIFE).
    Strong work ethic.

What kind of dog can you cross baton hedge with and the edge stays sharp? That's the Gasconade.

I'm in. And thank you for the opportunity. It's very generous.

Model #31, Sheperd's Hook, is an Austrailian Cattle Dog.

Why? Well, I have one, and she's a solid worker, just like the axe, gets into more trouble than seems possible, and always comes out no worse for wear (and I'm pretty sure the axe is bombproof), and while she's mostly a good worker, she can be one mean girl if something (or rather someone) decides to try and test her.

I had a border collie too. She was with us for ten years, biggest chicken in the world. She'd hide behind me and shake at night when I took her camping.
But when the coyotes would start calling she was up and in front, ready to fight to the death. She was very bright and loyal (like you said) to a fault.
If she thought something was gonna get her she'd run but if she thought something was coming after us she was hell on four legs.
    I loved that dog.

i'd say the model 18. boone's branch neck knife is just like my rabbit beagle.

    small
    loves the woods
    extremely capable
and most importantly, pretty enough even my wife likes how it looks.

Model 27 Machete, I'd call it the Wolfhound, not only because it's long across the back but also because the 27th Infantry Crest also happens to be....Wolfhound. Put me on the IN list!

Delkancott stole my idea! He forgot loyal though, as in always at your side. That's where a great dog or knife should be! Ridgebacks were bred in Zimbabwe as general purpose farm dog and to hunt lions. They will take on anything, as a good knife should also.

Thank you for the contest mrjefe2u!

    All righty then...I'm in.

We have a couple of short haired miniature Dachshunds. One is black and tan and the other is tan. They are sisters from the same litter and turn 5 on April 1st and they are characters!

So I was thinking of the name Dachshund being spelled like DOXshund for marketing purposes.

The model #20 Gasconade would be named #20 DOXshund (i.e., regular Dachshund)
The model #30 Arghandab River would named #30 Mini-DOXshund (i.e., small version of the Gasconade River)

If the naming convention for #20 and #30 above didn't work, I think the model #21 Wilson's Creek Combat could be called DOXshund because this breed was made to battle badgers which are very foul creatures indeed.

    Thank you kindly.

    thanks. i'm in.

Model 23 Silver Creek . reminds me of my dog, a lab/heeler or lab/catahoula mix who is missing his bottom front teeth. (mentally) sharp, black, stays by your side, smaller bite than normal, but does everything you ask of him.
