Annndddd Spring has Sprung! This was a great one guys thank you to everybody who entered, commented, or even watched along! I made this one multiple choice just to see how that goes, so if there are two you can't decide between just pick them all. There will be no March contest as I am very busy right now and I need to rethink how we decide these. We got 22 entries this time and the limit is 30 for a poll. LET THE VOTING BEGIN!!

This idea I came up with myself with my wives direction on the last one that making it current to the season or holidays around the time makes it more fun. Guess what officially starts March 20th people? Spring! All of the seasons have their splendors but the birth of Spring is special and the Earth is waking back up and being reborn. What I want you to do is capture the first signs of it wherever you are.* I want you to do it in either 1 picture or 1 video that is 1 minute or less. I think the brevity of it is a part of showing things being reborn as they grow up so big so fast.

The dates for the submissions are from now until 3/25/2013.

This like all of our contests will be decided by voting from 3/25/2013 until 3/31/2013. I will change this thread to a poll with each user who entered's name at some point on my 26th (late in the US night.)

    Rules
One picture or one video that is one minute or less
Show the change of seasons in your area however you feel best
These must be NEW submissions something shot this year, this season
*Southern hemisphere people are more than welcome to show the end of summer and the start of Fall

    The Prize
I hemmed and hawed on prizes on this one. I have decided to give away some more saws this time as they are proving to be very popular. Your choice of a Pocketboy 130mm, a Pocketboy 170mm, or a Gomboy 210mm with any size teeth your prefer. The ones we have listed on our site are large teeth for the Pocketboys, and normal and large teeth for the Gomboy 210s. But really I am very flexible if you win and would like fine teeth or something we can work that out. Also if you have a Pocketboy or other similar saw as I know several who participate in our contests do we can work out something else in a similar price range. I'm easy like Sunday morning basically.

My collage program was being a jerk so I did this one by hand in Photoshop it is kind of a lame picture. Plenty of info and pictures are on our site linked in my signature.

So have at it. Keep your phone in your pocket or your camera around your neck, take a walk in the woods or the city, and go find Spring Springing and Sprang!

And here's my example. We got up so early and the warm weather was just a couple of days so it was quite a chore to find some things popping up but we did. I told my son "let's find Spring" and he and I had a ball with it all over the city and the mountains. I had hoped to hear the Japanese Bush Warbler which is a traditional sign of spring here forever but it was just a bit early. If I catch one singing I'll be sure and put it up here somewhere, they have this amazing call and it really only can be heard at the very start of spring and into summer.

The music in this is by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and the song is called Sunshine and Clouds (And Everything Proud), fitting I thought.

Thought of that, there must be signs of changes even in the warmer climates. We are pretty warm here too with only snow up at the very tops of the mountains. That's part of the contest to find those tiny little changes. A couple here I've noticed are I saw my first bee a couple days ago and the bats are back out by the river waiting for the bugs to come back. Keep your eyes and ears open basically on this one. :)

Very cool of you bro, I have just the shot in mind, every year in the spring woods there is one type of undergrowth that makes it feel like spring.

GREAT! I saw this was up so quick and realized I forgot my standard stipulation of these must be new submissions and was worried it was older. But this is this year, this season wonderful thanks. Now I'm even more excited to see what people come up with.

Thought of you specifically after I decided on the prize. Thought you might have some saw envy after using Doug's hah. Good luck to you and all who enter, I'm always really glad when people take part in these.

So does a video submission have to be one continuous shot?

Is this spring? I doubt that it is global warming because last year on this date we had sub zero temps and four feet of snow on the ground. This photo was taken March 1. Two weeks ago this was all frozen solid and covered with snow. Migratory ducks and songbirds have just arrived and I'm filling the bird feeder three times a day. Maybe those critters know something we don't - hope so.

It needs to be a video 1 minute(-ish) or less. That is the only stipulation. My example was cut together and 1:03 so as you can see it's flexible.

Love it! We are going back and forth here right now. Blue skies today and Friday but yesterday a tiny bit of snow was coming down with the wind back out of the North from Siberia and COLD.

No worries that's a great video. I just don't want guys posting up epic feature films and 20 pictures at a time cause it makes it hard to understand.

Hmm any kind of change of seasons at all would work even winter to another type of winter.

Since we didn't really have a winter we will call the arrival of the bluebonnets spring.

Per BushMetal's suggestion I'm entering this shot from my overnighter last weekend - thanks for the heads up!

Though technically I'm not sure if this is a sign of spring, or just that we've had some really insanely weird winters the past couple years :33:

In North Florida, the land of the evergreens, we dont get seasonal change. If you want, i can take pictures of me changing from a long sleeve shirt into a short sleeve! I'd say tennis shoes to flip flops, but i wear those year round. :9:

In my neck of the woods, when the ice on Lake Huron breaks up, spring isn't far away.

I'd love to get in on this one but spring may be a bit away for us. Just got another few inches of snow. Maybe it will strat to break up by the end of the week.

Well, it might be a bit till spring hits where I live. It's -22c (-8F) with windchill this morning, and snowing just north of me, but the south wall of my igloo is starting to let in more light. I'm calling it a "sign of spring".

Ooooo! Oooooo! I wanna play! I wanna play!

Here's my entry as to what is one of my indicators of springtime. (I hope you are judging by content and not quality. Otherwise, I'll have to give you a prize, my photo is so bad. :) ) My phone was all that I had on me.

Maple time! I know that it's springtime when the maples tell me that it is.

This shot, which I took not 30 seconds later, got my vote for best runner up (and possibly most patriotic.)

Spring migration. The warm front passing through last weekend was pushing huge flocks of Canadas and Snows northward.

You can hear the pulse of the planet........if you listen.

HAH! He also got birds migrating which I have been holding my tongue on for two weeks now. That was mean sandcut, brilliant entry. I'm letting a couple of multiple picture posts slide now but please keep it to one if possible as stated in the rules.

Ooops! Sorry for my gluttonous breach of etiquette, cellis. i just thought the photo was too cool not to share.

As for the maple, I'm actually shocked that a shot like that hasn't been posted yet. Sorry, I stole your thunder, Adahy. But as my kids say "You snooze, you lose." :) (or was that "move your meat, lose your seat"? I get them mixed up.)

Your photo would be more photogenic and have better composition.

These were taken on a couple different trips within a week and a half. I love the changes!

I decided to do a quick and silly drive from VA to my homeplace in MA this weekend so that my daughter and her cousin could ski together.
It was 55 and sunny when I left VA on Friday afternoon.
I woke up to this on Saturday morning:[IMG]

Then I met up with my sister and we let the girls ski for a bit (my daughter is the first one, she doesn't ski as much as her cousin who goes once or twice a week):

After a couple hours they got tired and decided they needed to go back to the house and sled with the boys for a bit:

After a couple hours of that this little feller was shivering to beat the band but cried when I put the sled away:

On Sunday morning it was 10 degrees when I woke up so I was looking forward to getting back to the relative warmth of VA and getting started on my garden. About an hour before we got home we started running into a bit of snow.
I found this brave little fellow poking through on Monday morning so he's my entry:

Yeah, there's a lot to wade through before the entry but I had a fun weekend and wanted to share.

Happy Spring Day to All!! Your trivia of the day is this is actually a holiday here, you gotta love a country that makes the first day of spring a holiday.

I also have to hand it to Japan for having "Greenery Day" - a national holiday celebrated as a day to commune with nature and be grateful for its blessings. :)
