As mentioned in the instructions for the June Project, we will be constructing a blowgun for the July Project. Make the blowgun from scratch using natural materials found in the wild or purchased. Bamboo is an excellent choice for blowguns. It grows wild in many places or can be purchased from garden supply stores and craft stores such as Hobby Lobby. If you absolutely cannot find a natural material, you can use a piece of PVC pipe. You will also need to make some darts, preferably from natural materials. There is a lot of good information on the internet on how to make blowguns and darts so I will not go into the construction here. We will be using the same targets we used for the June Project. Use three separate targets. Take three shots at each target from 15’, 20’ and 25’. Take lots of pictures and show us how you did. Also, take pictures of your blowgun and darts and tell how you made them.

I finished mine today. It is made from a stem of Giant Reed, Arundo donax.

It is 20.5 inches long. I run a hot steel rod through the stem to burn the nodes out.

I made the darts out of bamboo skewers, cotton and a little Elmer’s Glue.

I could get a dart to go 30 feet, however, I had to be very close to the target to hit it.

I got one of them to stick in the bark of a pecan tree.

Due to very little to no participation, the July Monthly Project will be the last one I will post.

Also sorry to hear that. I discovered these late and have been reading all of them. The blowgun ones were kinda sketchy for my area. The bamboo here sucks and blowguns are a felony.

Slingshots in a lot of counties. I was using a slingshot to fling tennis balls in the park with the kids and a police officer told me to stop and I could be subject to arrest for possession of a slingshot in city limits. Yeah, I gotta move.
