Time to get a December meet up.

This is for the weekend of December 9, 10 & 11.

We'll be meeting at the back lake at YMCA Camp Classen on the back lake. I've got two sites back there depending on the size group that signs up. We'll have the whole lake pretty much to ourselves.

I love to learn new things, and challenges are always fun. Prizes are fun too! So for this meet I'm going to do a fishing challenge. No rods or reels here though. If I read the fishing regs right, we can't do fish traps, :33: but we can build limb/trigger fishing lines. So. I've got a vintage hatchet I'm currently refinishing that will go to the person who builds and catches the biggest fish on the weekend via fish snare.

I won't be there, but that sounds like a lot of fun. Make sure you get your name & whatnot on your yo-yo's (page 8), and be careful using that snare word around a GW - they handle the trapping regs as well, and that's a big no-no in this state. Don't forget about trot & limb lines either :)

You still thinking about a January meet as well?

There will definitely be a January meet. Yeah, I was reading through the regs. If I'm interpreting them correctly, a fish 'snare' with hook will work because it's basically a tensioned limb line. OP edited for language that better matches the regs. :)

I'm in. Is there a fee?
    And I might need directions.
I assume no firearms are allowed?

No fee. I've got a hookup lol. Map up 10840 Main Camp Rd Davis OK 73030. I'll get on campus directions up soon.

CCW ok, but we won't have a rifle range this time. Next time we might. There are no guests on property in January :)

By the way Smokey- you mentioned this website and the meetup to me at camp a few weeks ago- thanks for letting me know about this site, especially the bush class. I think I'll learn a lot here!

Good deal! Yes there are hammock trees. I'm available whenever folks want to show up on Friday. I'll get a map and detailed directions up the beginning of this week.

There is a bit of firewood. Some will take some work. I'm a small fire guy by nature though lol. I can bring some that just needs splitting.

Having never been to one of these before, other than the obvious camping gear/food/water, what else do I need to bring?

What about food? Looking at pics from past events, seems like you guys like to do meals together, which is awesome. Will this meetup be the same? I could do some chili or stew in a dutch oven if anyone is interested? Or if people already have stuff planned I'd be happy to contribute, either by bringing stuff or chipping in $. If everyone plans on doing their own thing for meals, that works too, just let me know so I know what to bring.

I used this meetup as an excuse to pull the trigger on a hammock gear UQ/TQ, and it arrived about 20 minutes ago, so I'm pretty stoked to try it out!

You're going to like the hammock gear stuff, I love mine. Meets are always a good excuse to buy new gear!

Most guys plan their own meals, though often folks will bring something to share around. Not required thought! Usually not planned, but this meet some of us are throwing together a beef stew for everyone. Chili would be cool too. I'm hoping we catch enough fish for everyone to have some.

Bring the gear you need, water esp. While we are at a lake, I haven't cooked out of it yet.

Here is a bit of map to where we are camping. Fire65 & Lurch655 both know where it is as well. If you get lost, just give me a call at 330-234-0727. If you get on property and an employee asks who you are, just let them know you're with Ben, aka Smokey.

This is a YMCA Camp, so please be respectful, they're being super generous in letting us camp here at no cost. On campus speed limit is 15mph, even on the back roads we're traveling, so please stay at that. These are one lane roads with blind curves, so be aware.

Turn left onto property at the main gate. Big YMCA Camp Classen sign, hard to miss. White fence.

At the second intersection, stay left. It's sort of a Y in the road. You'll pass a couple of gravel parking lots, then come to a yellow farm gate with a stop sign.

Another half mile or so, as to come to the top of a rise there will be a right turn with a blue gate. It's a pretty wide entry, the gate is about 100' off the road.

Head down to the lake. You'll pass a parking area, then down to the docks. You can unload at the lake, then park back at the parking area.

Congrats on the deer, Smokey! I have a decent rub that I'll toss in my box- if you come up with something else, no biggie.

I'm looking at arriving noonish on Friday. Sounds like between the venison and the beef stew we'll have enough stuff so I'll save the chili for another time.

Looks like folks will be coming in scattered all day Friday for the most part. You looking at 8am Friday then? That will put you here first. :dblthumb: If you would, pull right up to the main offices (there are signs) and I'll go out with you to get the gates unlocked. 330-234-0727
