I bought this at an antique store years ago. These were first made in the mid to late 30's as best I can tell. The first picture below is one from the internet where I found the information about this model lamp. As you can see this one has a red globe.

Info on the No2 Air Pilot:
Air Pilot: The Embury Air Pilot and Little Air Pilot were introduced shortly after Dietz introduced their streamline lanterns in 1936-38. These lanterns used globes that were common to the D-Lite and Little Wizard. When Dietz bought the Embury Company in 1953, the tooling for the Air Pilot lanterns was sold to a stamping company in Monterey, Mexico. Occasionally lanterns that were made in Mexico with the old tooling show up, and can be identified by an Aztec logo on the globe and tank. What became of the tooling or stamping company in Mexico in unknown. Dietz sold the Embury tooling prematurely, as there was still great demand for the popular Embury lanterns made under the Air Pilot name. The #8 Air Pilot is the only lantern still produced in the "Streamline" style, and is possibly the only item still in production originally designed by famed industrial designers Ruth Gerth and Joseph Sinel.

Had to make a new bail handle, it was missing when I bought it. The inside of the kerosene well was as clean as a pin. Replaced the wick, cleaned out the dirt-dobber nest from the chimney. Clean the globe which by the way if not the original was at least replaced early on. It's chipped badly but not cracked. I had to straighten the wire globe protectors as they were bent pretty bad. I think it turned out well. I am very pleased with it.

Thanks for the post. Just used two old lamps and two newer lamps during a power outtage last week. One of my old ones is from my fathers childhood growing up on the farm before rural electric came through. A little care and your all lite up!

We have an old one hanging in the basement stairwell, and I bought a cheapie at Kmart.

The older ones are way better than the new ones...not sure about Dietz though, theirs might still be good...mad expensive though!

I got a very small one, similar to yours.

It works very good with citronella back when I got a boat.

Now, is rusting. Will restore it too.

    Good work!!!

556, they're pretty bright compared to a candle. Not as bright as a propane lantern but deffo brighter than a candle, jar of oil, etc.

One thing worth mentioning: It's good to ventilate your house if you're using one of these indoors. LOL.

Depends, I do enjoy the kerosickness... :4::4::4:

Here is hard to get good quality kerosene, no idea why. I also got some pressure kerosene lamp, that I use more often.

Will try to post pictures of that too.

    Cheers!!!
