Been out a few 2 or 3 hour mornings the last couple weeks, getting 1 fish a day to the bank,on top of a hookup or two. Released this buck yesterday, about 27 or 28 inches. Didnt measure, just snapped a picture popped the hook and pushed him back in!
Yet to break the 30 inch mark this year but likely it'll happen as the fish count picks up.
Just starting here for the winter, might go as long as March on and off with the rains affecting the rivers.

Beautiful fish, gotta say I am green with envy. :)

I sure miss fishing, hoping next year I can get some fly fishing in.

Nice fish, and good on ya for putting him back. Around here people are completely rabid for steelhead, it's crazy.

I don't bother much with them because the rivers turn into complete googan infestations. Shoulder to shoulder, all swearing, jostling, fighting, and behaving badly. It's nuts - and that's just the polite Canadians :18:

I've fished in lots of places like that, it sure takes some of the fun out of it. Lots of fans here too and you have company pretty often most places. Manners aren't bad usually though.
Steelies are about My favorite fish to eat, but we can Only keep hatchery fish. I get enough of them to keep me happy.

Steelhead are sweet but for cold waters my heart lies with the brown trouts

Lol I do agree that browns do taste better but as beautiful as they are I try not to keep them. It's hard

Some of my favorite fishing stories involve steelies. Having other fisherman freak out when I release a nice one is just about the best.

Nice fish, great story. Wish I was there.

Browns are in the main stem here, and considered somewhat invasive, I guess they eat salmon and steelhead fry. Get good sized too.
Here they say keep em, the limits higher too, and they are pretty good eating.

Things have been blown out with rain, but last week I hit a couple stretches right before. Hooked up and fought a nice one drifting a pink worm, and he slipped the hook right at the bank. Oh well, would have let it go anyway, no pic though.
The river sure was pretty that day.
And there was a hatch, even though it was about 20 degrees out. 20170103_104928.jpg 20170103_110537.jpg

Beautiful area down there. I should have some steelies up by me soon. If you're ever in NW Oregon, you're more than welcome to fish my property on the Sandy river. No worries of crowded banks here.

First lake run brown! I've caught a few more here and there etc. Lately I've been just playing with carp on fly. But given the chance and opportunity I'd fish for trout

It is one of the 9 members of the Black Bass family like the small mouth and large mouth bass. Similar to the small mouth it has a small mouth but it is more green and has stripes on its side. Pretty much only catchable populations left are in Georgia where I guide for them...
